Great game to start the day in basketball, as the old men from Spain overcame a beast performance from Giannis and beat Greece by 7. Huge game for Canada upcoming, where they can slmost lock up advancing with a win.

In the least surprising news of the day, the Mens triathlon has been postponed due to the
"water quality" of the Seine river.

Watching Canada v Australia basketball in a sports pub in Surry Hills, Sydney. I seem to be the only one here interested! To be fair it's a cold and rainy winter night, pretty quiet in here.

Entertaining first half, losing SGA to the bench that early in the first to foul trouble didn’t help.

Yeah, really entertaining game. A rested SGA may be a big factor in the second half, but Canada needs to find another way to get good looks beyond relying on him. Australia is doing a really nice job creating offense with interior screens, so stepping up the point of attack offense would help there.

The defense has been great in the 2nd but the ball movement and finishing has been top notch.

Great result.

Please explain FIBA point system?
2 points for a win, 1 point for a loss?

OK, this explains it well.
Is really all about point differential.
So Canada at +17 in great shape.

Yeah, he has an underrated big-game-player quality. Has played great in every international tournament he's been in, and even in the NBA he's played better in the playoffs than regular season.

Oh my, Gauff lost in an upset? Saw just the ending of a clip on CBC highlights, and saw her in a heated debate with the umpire. What happened? That's too bad for her.

Edit - found a clip. Gauff says the ump called the shot out just before Gauff hit it, so she let up on her return with her return hitting the net. The out call by the umpire was ruled in after video review.

Solid start to the tournament, but it's tough to see them getting a medal if they are going to get next to nothing from Murray. Really need him to find his rhythm before the knockouts.

I do not expect Canada/Australia 7's to be pretty. They are on a whole other level.
Good luck!

Really good composure this game, and nice adjustments to the rotation by Fernandez. A win over Spain combined with France beating Germany would set Canada up perfectly for the knockout round.
