Edit - my goodness, Japan just killed it on the high bar in their first attempt of the 5th rotation!

Oh boy, crazy drama now as China falls TWICE on high bar giving Japan an opening!

Wow that was pretty intense! It took 2 falls by the Chinese, but Japan gold, China silver, US bronze!

Pumped for the swimming shortly. Question, as I only pay attention to it during the Olympics: what happened to Penny Oleksiak?

I know she's there, she just seems to be more of a background person, Summer McIntosh seems to be the headliner. In 2016 & 2020 Oleksiak seemed like she was on a trajectory to be a phenom by now, did she sort of fall off from that trajectory? Just surprised how little I hear about her at these Olympics.

Or perhaps I'm just forgetting what her strongest events are, and haven't happened yet...

It’s a good question, and from what I understand she’s dealt with significant injury in 2022 and 2023, both knee injuries requiring surgery and it appears she hasn’t competed much in the last year or so.

Still, she’s won more Olympic medals than any Canadian in history and is tied with another Canadian (Kylie masse ) for 9 world championship medals so even if she didn’t reach phenom status internationally she is basically canadas most decorated Olympian ever.

I’m guessing the injuries have released here to more of a support role on the team for relays and I’m unsure if she is expected to medal this games

She had injury issues and tried to come back for this year. Worked hard to make the relay team is my understanding

Calgarian Ingrid Wilm and Kylie Masse have both qualified for the Women’s 100m Backstroke Final. Tomorrow at 12:56.

Both in tough to medal I suspect but it would be amazing to see one of them squeeze in for a bronze

Great to see some gold medals coming in today, if you want to rank anywhere on the medal charts at the summers you have to have strong swimmers.
