Why not just study the tape then?

You can find out their specific game plan against your team. You can figure out exactly what they want to try to do on corner kicks. Wathcing game tape for that is bloody complicated compared to watching them practice it a dozen times in a row.

But that said, operationalizing that for your team in a short period is very difficult. The reward is likely fairly low. So it's just insanely stupid to do it.

Lol! I hate to be 'that guy' but...so what?

Watching a Practice? What do you expect to learn? Tactics and strategies are established during video sessions and happened a long, long time before they even set foot on French soil.

Nothingburger.

If you're practicing your tactics now? Its way too late.

They still shouldn't have done it, but its essentially the equivalent of perving on someone at the Gym. Thats all they've done.

Canada docked 6 points, 3 coaches banned for a year, fined 200,000 Swiss francs.

If I’m the players I probably just pack up and head home. No point in playing the matches and potentially getting hurt for no reason.

Excuse my ignorance with the point system, but does that basically make it impossible for CWT to qualify for the medal round?

2 third place teams qualify for the knockout stage so they can still get there.

Plenty of scenarios where they could advance (I think):

1. Win all of the games and they likely finish 2nd in the group and advance (unless COL or NZL beats the other one by like 5 goals).

2. Beat COL and tie France.
a) If COL and NZL tie, CAN likely finished 2nd in the group
b) if CAN finishes 3rd in the group with 1 pt, they'd still probably have a better GD than another group's 3rd place finisher if they had 1 pt too. In 2020 the 3rd place teams had 4, 4, and 1 pts, so it can happen.

Basically if either the Japan-Nigeria or Australia-Zambia or Colombia-NZL games ends as a tie, the odds are in Canada's favour as long as they don't #### the bed.

Okay...what are the details here? It was a practice session right? Those are usually open, they could have sent a coach with a camcorder.

Not to mention 6 points and some money...for what? What is the actual infraction?

It sounds pretty arbitrary...like they just made it up.

"Yez...fine ze Canadians uhhh....6 points! And some money!"

Sorry, I just cant help but laugh.

This seems absurd.

First of all...it was a dumb and useless thing for Canada to do in the first place. I won't argue that.

But secondly...the uproar? For what? Its a practice! Most teams in the world Practice is open! You can sit in the stands and watch.

Look at the Flames...they have media at the practice and record it and release it on Twitter! Who cares? Its practice.

Just completely absurd. Canada was wrong to do it. If you want the dirt on your opponent either send an assistant to watch the open practice or...more efficiently, just get a tape of their last competitive match which, honestly, would be far more useful.

FIFA is wrong to punish it because, I'm not sure theres a rule against it, although there probably should be.

Using a drone may or may not give an advantage, but it is illegal in France and Olympic officials warned teams against it prior to the games. Rules were clearly broken, whether you think they were good rules or not.

These are some of the details I was missing. But the entire thing still seems absurd to me.

If they were warned that drones were not to be used, which, in my opinion ought to go without saying and is a completely ridiculous idea, and then they did it anyways? You gotta take your lumps.

Scenario 2 is dead. Colombia beat NZL 2-0 and AUS beat Zambia 6-5. And Japan beat Brazil.

Just got to win them both now. I'm not sure if there are realistic scenarios where they could win both and still miss, but I don't think so.

They beat France which was the hard game. Now they just have to win a game they were expected to win coming in

I hope they win it all just to stick it to FIFA and the IOC.

I hope the ladies run the table and FiFA can eat it.

No discipline for any of the egregious antics and blatant racism during COPA America, and dronegate results such a heavy penalty?

A win guarantees in correct, as second in poll? There is no weird 4 way tie breaking scenarios, is there? If they beat every team they must advance with tie?

They lead in goal differential, so looks like a win and they’re in
