It was interesting that Scott Russell mentioned that this is the first "equal Olympics". I believe that means women and men are competing against each other in the exact same sports, including various weight classes. That's a great step to take!

Edit: Although in watching the Judo replay did Deguchi literally just win the gold through multiple disqualifications? Obviously she's ranked #1 in the world for a reason, but seems like a real uncharismatic way to win a gold.

At that level and after a long day, it's survival. A lot of matches are 0-0 stalemates and tired athletes make mistakes leading to yellow cards.

I don't think its sexist at all.

I think soccer is a prime example.

Why is Canada so good in women's soccer compared to men's? because so many countries that are good in soccer don't support women athletes like Canada does.

It is a ####ty and boring way to win.

It seems like Judo might have an aggressiveness issue to address.

Perhaps changes need to occur to reward aggressive but unsuccessful attacks.

It was clear from anyone watching that gold medal match that whatever was happening there was clearly against the spirit of the rules.

The whole thing was played off like a dare to the ref to see who he would penalize three times first.

I think so. It's also the occasion. 4 years to compete in one day. You don't want to make an attack that could lead to a counter and regret it forever. But can it be changed? Would it be against judo tradition?

On the opposite side, boxing used to be boring and corrupt in the olympics now have gone full blast. 9 minutes of two fighters pummeling each other.

Fortune favours the bold

Attack, dominate your opponent

That’s what people want to see
