Do I detect a bit of a dig by Lucic at McHobo in that interview? In response to the interviewer's question about why he was more relaxed and feeling less pressure heading into training camp in Calgary, Lucic responds: "It's and older group; the captain is an older guy."

I don't think he's digging on McDavid as much as he is the organization and their attitude. When he came into Edmonton he was expected to be this thing that maybe he never was. He wasn't a leader in Boston. Maybe in some ways, but they had Chara, Bergeron, Krejci, depth veterans Like Recchi and Peverly. Lucic was just part of the mix, not some babysitter for their teenagers.
If Lucic wants to endear himself to (this) Flames' fan(s) he will have no qualms about mixing it up with his former EDM teammates. It would be disappointing if he didn't bring a high degree of physicality and intimidation against ALL opponents.
Oh course I'm biased but Lucic and Talbot are so much more likeable than Smith and Neal.
I liked Smith. Neal, well it was only one year, not much to say other than that. I think the big let down was he was sold as an automatic 20 goals and once that wasn't met, all bets were off.
Still adjusting to the reality of Lucic as a Flame. Its gonna take some time still. Talbot? Just stop pucks and all is well.

Kevin Lowe told Dustin Penner he can be a Bob Probert type player. Let that sink in.
With that in mind, even though he was cast to the shadows with Chia there, I'm sure through MacT as others, Lowe was likely telling Lucic that he was going to be calling Messier to see if it was going to be ok for Milan to wear #11. And probably some passive aggressive comment to Lucic about how much the team is committing to him, $ wise, and how he has to fill his side if the equation.
So with that ludicrous type of expectation of leadership and production, and the Lucic basically having to be the team baby sitter for a bunch of navel gazing young guys who have lost all confidence in their abilities, thanks to a losing culture and organizational chaos day in and day out, it would've been hard to focus on hockey on the ice. McDavid wasn't prepared for dealing with that either.
