Not sure if this deserves its own thread, but The Sporting News ranked the Flames at #23, much better than dead last by Pronman. Steve Kournianos even refers to the Flames as the "Sleeping Giants when it comes to drafting" which I have to say it quite fitting.

EP Rinkside has Calgary at 28. Ranking aside, they are fans of Calgary's scouting department.

The Calgary Flames prospect pool is the victim of their scouts and development staffs success. With so many of their top tier prospects graduating to the NHL, there aren’t many game breakers left in the system

The Sporting News criteria also allows them to have Valimaki and Dube in the rankings, which no doubt accounts for the rise, and illustrates why getting upset by prospect rankings is silly.

The top prospect teams are mostly terrible teams with high picks.

As soon as I see Edmonton at 9, I can disregard this ranking .

Teams like Tampa, Nashville, San Jose, Anaheim, Washington, Boston, and Pittsburgh are also low on this list, yet always develop players out of nowhere.
All of these teams have made the playoffs almost every year since 2006 or so. and they've won almost half the cups in that time period.
