I don't know why they just didn't go with Calgary FC.

Because I'm putting a team in NW Calgary next year. #derby

"Municipal District of Foothills Number 31 FC"

"We're number (thirty) ONE!"
"M-D-F-F-C!"

Missed opportunity if you ask me.

Actually, its Foothills County now.

Foothills County actually sounds like a UK football club, and FCFC rolls off the tongue.

#missedopportunity

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see them migrate to Calgary Cavalry FC and then see CCFC or Calgary FC used interchangeably with Cavs FC.

Interesting. I didn't realize that they officially changed the name to Foothills County, and only just this past January.

Foothills County FC sounds quite quaint and nice, actually. And as you say, very English.

Based on that earlier Reddit thread that analyzed the number of season tickets sold per section, I used the member ticket pricing booklet to come up with season ticket revenue for the club so far. What it seems to show so far is as follows:
- A healthy season ticket revenue base that can be built upon with the media deal, walk up sales, concessions and merchandise. The salary cap figure I've heard is $850K, so season ticket revenue doubling the wage bill with 9 weeks left to sell tickets is very promising.
- The high priced seats that seemed to generate the most outrage, are also generating the bulk of the revenue. The 23% sold battalion sections are bringing in 5 times the revenue of the 65% sold supporters section (although the supporters will make it up in beer, I'm sure)
- The main grandstand sections closest to the supporters section are selling much better than the south end sections closest to the supporters section, despite the bigger increase in season ticket price.
- There are lots of opportunities for matchday revenue growth. As opposed to a full stadium that can only grow matchday revenue by raising ticket prices, Cavalry can grow matchday revenue by getting more butts in the seats. Not trying to argue that they should keep prices as high as they are, just that there are growth opportunities with regards to matchday revenue.

The information is only as reliable as the counts in the Reddit thread. So, if Ticketmaster is incorrect in showing that a seat is sold, the revenue will be overstated (this is the most common argument being used to debunk the revenue figures right now). In addition to this, a number of sections are not represented in the Reddit thread, and the pricing does not factor in the 10% extra cost for the season tickets sold to the general public, so it's likely that both the season ticket count, and thus the season ticket revenue, are understated somewhat here.

Any rumours on who this exciting Central American winger might be that Tommy mentioned during his SN interview?

I've read a couple things that indicate a Costa Rica NT player, which would be awesome if true.

I would look to a Honduran if what I've heard has any merit.

Both Cavalry and FC Edmonton are putting U20 academy teams in the AMSL this year. Tommy has mentioned for a while that Calgary Foothills would be the reserve team for Cavalry, so I would imagine the pathway would be Cavalry U20 > Calgary Foothills > Cavalry.

https://albertasoccer.com/cpl-u20-de...soccer-league/

Also, they signed Jay Wheeldon today. I imagine he will be defensive depth, and particularly valuable during that tough May stretch. Nothing more, given his age and ceiling.

Nice of the AMSL to gift a spot to Foothills (Cavalry) after Foothills lost their promotional challenge to Lethbridge last summer.

But in all seriousness, I think it’s good for the league (AMSL), and good for the development of future CPLers as they’ll get to play against grown men in the AMSL in a pretty good league.

I do also think it's interesting what they'll do in terms of what will be the Cavalry's second team, as the AMSL is probably a better league than the PDL. I do still think they'll go with the PDL however.

Marcel de Jong just ruptured his achilles in training and is out for the season. Cavalry's path Voyageurs Cup just got a lot easier.

I've heard rumours of 3 more quality signings for Cavalry. If they turn out to be true, I think they will be some great additions.

Maybe get the locally born Owen Hargreaves to come out of retirement to play in Calgary.

It's definitely not Hargreaves. But here's an interview with Mason Trafford.

Excited to see where Victor Loturi's career takes him. Very young (2001), and probably looks even younger. Can't be more than 140lbs, so you'd think you can just out-muscle him, but he's so quick, smart, and evasive, that defenders can rarely get in a position to do so. He has the ability to dictate the game by himself, and he plays so simple (in a good way).

I think his ceiling is higher than CPL, so it'll be interesting to see how far he can go.
