Also provincially, don't Oilers have more fans than the Flames do?

Is this true? The June 2019 statements show it has made almost 1 billion in 6 months
Maybe certain division have become less profitable but the company appears healthy financially.
https://investors.rogers.com/financi...ncial-reports/
Moving to Media, revenue was 3% lower, largely as a result of the sale of our publishing business in the
second quarter and lower revenue from the Toronto Blue Jays. This was partially offset by higher
subscription and advertising revenue generated by our Sportsnet properties. Media EBITDA was
strong, up 20%, driven by efficiencies and lower Toronto Blue Jays salaries"

I suspect that increasing what they pay currently for NHL regional coverage probably isn't in the offing.

Sure they paid a lot and maybe the ROI isn't what they expected but to say they are in trouble is misleading. The statements seem to blame the Jay and the sale of publications division as the cause of the revenue/income drop. Sportsnet properties revenue was actually up to the end of June.

Seems like it will be by committee.

Those are the guys on the noon show, who knows who'll show up on HNIC.
Probably Friedman, Burke and a masked singer.

Colby Armstrong is so hokey. Something about him is cringe worthy, and I think it's how he'll try to drop hockey room slang every now and then expect a reaction for a split second (maybe a laugh from someone on the panel), but it doesn't come, then he continues trying to sound like a grown up. I don't know who they could "call up", but letting Kypreos go wasn't a good move. Personally I liked him, and I know he wasn't popular here, but I enjoyed PJ Stock because he was so entertaining when he got wound up every night.

When you keep axing talent and ignoring recruiting the top talent out there, yes that’s what they’re left with.

I realize it's becuase the contracts of all those guys were up, and drastic pay cut was the only way to stay on, and none wanted to, but if Snet is looking for some savings, most logical reduction of unnecessary expenses for the panel is not having Hrudey fly in from Calgary 3 nights every weekend for 7 months.
And have Tara Slone report stories she did over the week, for Hometown Hockey during the Sunday night games, not have a full set and 3h production and day long activities each Sunday from Backwater Manitoba. I like the concept and appreciate what it's trying to do, but having a full set and having such a large scale production doesn't really make the stories and interview and overall theme from the town any better or more relevant.

Hometown hockey is “pat on the head” cute, I don’t hate it per se but completely unnecessary and often cringeworthy. A giant meh for what I assume is a very high cost.
|
As always, it's about the money. Scroll to the bottom of this page: https://www.hometownhockey.com/en/ro...e-town-hockey/
Look at the sponsors list. 6 different companies paying to be associated with Hometown Hockey and that doesn't even include the naming sponsor, Rogers. I don't know if the telecom side of Rogers pays the media side of Rogers for the naming rights, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do.
On the other hand, Kypreos being on the HNIC panel isn't going to bring in any extra money. His absence this season isn't likely to change the ratings one bit. Even if it did, it would have to be a significant drop to cost them more in ad revenue than what they were paying him to be on the panel.
