I will say some of those ambitious projections for Lazar kind of shake my confidence in a lot of scouts. I simply don't see anything from his junior stats that point to him becoming a scoring forward in the NHL as he wasn't a ppg player in his draft year which trends to a bottom 6 forward in the NHL at best. I remember a few of us here thinking he was overrated and that turned out to be correct.

That's my take too. A lot of these scouting reports are overly optimistic both in terms of ceiling and floor. If he really had any potential to be Tyler Seguin he would have been a top 5 pick.
And his junior stats just don't support that view.

We need to stop blaming mono for all of Lazar's performance issues.
(Unless that was sarcasm and I missed it)

My opinion is that if he wasn't Tyler Seguin in junior he sure as hell is not going to be Tyler Seguin in the NHL. Not exactly sure how any scouts could draw parallels between the two based on what they had accomplished in their junior careers up to their draft. As far as Patrice Bergeron goes he should rarely ever used as a comparison as he's an outlier as far as using junior stats to project NHL success.

Bennett and Lazar are two guys whose bulldog type play and competitiveness masked their skill deficiencies in junior.
Both guys need to be paired with high end skill I think. They are likely complimentary wingers at the NHL level.
Bennett occasionally gets away with a junior hockey toe drag and scores a nice goal but I don't see the high end skill that would be expected of a top 5 pick. His strengths are his agility, skating, and fearlessness which will get him to the high danger scoring areas but he lacks the finishing skills but it is something he can work on.

Maybe the Flames should also target Ty Lewis? He had 44 goals and 100 points at the same age as Matthew Phillips had 112 points. He is undrafted, as far as I can tell. Perhaps this would be equivalent to a late round draft pick.

Bennett was the top rated forward in his draft year.
#1.
He didn't have deficiencies that were masked by competitiveness. The kid was good. The talent is there.
There is a ridiculous amount of revisionist history going on these days.

Hoping Bennett has a successful career with the Flames. The Fllames absolutely are dependent on him reaching a top 6 F level if the team is to improve and become a viable contender.
However , Nail Yakupov, Patrick Stephan and Alexandre Daigle also were the #1
ranked forwards in their draft and first overall picks. There are other top five picks that have not come close to living up to their billing. They were also good and looked to have a ton of talent in junior and other places.
It doesn’t happen often but it is also not revisionist history.
Up to this point, he has demonstrated a lot of deficiencies. Still time.

There were lots of concerns about Yakupov. In real time.
While it's true that not all players live up to their billing, there were no such concerns were presented about Bennett at draft time. It is most definitely revisionist history to suggest there were..
