Turris is higher risk higher reward because of the extra year on his contract. If neither player bounces back the Turris contract might even be worse. Look how much it cost Toronto to move out one year at that high of a cap hit
But I think Turris is more likely to rebound than Neal, and when playing well is a vastly superior hockey player. Even at his career best Neal is a bit of a pigeon with discipline issues

He may be a better bounce back canditate but he gets paid more and has more term. There's little doubt the Flames would be obtaining Matt Stajan V2 (massively overpaid 4th line center) in the back half of the deal with Backlund already on that course to be an expensive 3rd line center. Is that something the Flames would like to revisit? Would maybe a better first season or two be worth the long term consequences? I'm not sure.

Frolik I think should be moved for cap space.
Brodie I think should now only be moved if the return is worth it.
Stone I think would be very difficult to move anywhere.
Backlund though... That’s the guy I think we should be moving while we can. 30 year old #3C with five more years left at 5.5M per. Defensive specialist with career highs of 22G and 53Pts.
There’s got to be a good RW out there somewhere we can get for Backlund +.

You think Backlund will waive his full NTC? I think he loves it in Calgary and won't waive it.

Saw a tweet today about the 3 teams interested in Gardiner. I wonder if the two that dont get him turn their sights to Brodie. Sabres, Canadiens and Jets I believe

The Jets have no shot at Gardiner with Laine and Connor needing deals. Sabre’s also have a pretty stacked blueline

They gave Backlund a full NTC? I guess he did hold all the cards in that negotiation, knowing that the Flames had nothing to replace him with but holy crap. If backlund takes a step back during that deal, it will be an anchor not unlike Turris.

At his best, Turris is a dynamic skilled player with a good shot and a good skater.
I don't think the Stajan comparison is relevant. The skill set is very different.
I don't know what happened last year, but prior to that, he was a very consistent 20 goal, 50 point centre, with the ability to put up 60 plus points when paired with a top playmaking winger (Mark Stone), which the Flames happen to have.
Turris's skating and premium centre position should keep him more effective than Neal moving forward. Especially if the Neal we saw last year is what he's going to continue to be. Neal was completely ineffective, he could not skate and he had no velocity on his shot.
At least Turris can be a two way centre if his offense dies. If Neal isn't scoring, he can't do anything else as we have already seen.

Still not a peep on these 3 today? At what point do we start to get nervous about this?

Around the draft. Whoops, that passed. Around free agent feeding frenzy when other teams have found they don't have a dance partner. Whoops, that passed too. We should be nervous about now. Still lots of time to get a trade completed, but the expected return for these guys should really be reigned in. Doubt we see a big player brought in with a move of any of these guys. We're in futures world now.

A couple minutes before playoff puck drop, I'd start to get nervous.

How about Turris 2mil retained for Neal 0.75 mil retained? This way the money evens out. Turris at 4mil for 5 years vs Neal at 5mil for 4 years. It would also make each contract easier to move or buyout down the line.

For Brodie I think if he ends up getting moved it's likely once Gardiner signs - really the UFA market for d-man hasn't really moved a ton so far with only Myers and Stralman getting big deals done early.
Frolik will depend on the rest of the UFAs I think. Still some middle 6 guys available (Dzingel, Ferland, Johansson, etc) that the market needs to shake out.

I meant that if we don't move salary out, are the flames in a position to sign their RFA’s.
If nothing changes, are the flames not able to ice their potential opening day roster.

No, they cannot possibly sign all their RFAs for reasonable deals and ice the same lineup. Salary must be moved out somehow.
