Mike Smith is not the answer to this team's goaltending issues.

Calm your fire. It was one bad game for him. Other than this one, he's been really good way more than not.

Does anyone have a gif of Smith's death-stare on the bench shortly after he got pulled? That's the passion of someone who lives for victory. That might have been the angriest look I've ever seen on a player sitting on the bench.

Ohh c’mon, GG has been over using him and he’s been standing on his head most nights keeping the Flames in games. He’s a 35 year old goalie, someone needs to tell GG he can’t go 5 games straight with no break anymore.

He has been very good on the road but only average at home.
He also plays too many games for a 35 year old.

He's played 5 games over the last 3 weeks. That's hardly over using the guy.

Sure, but what about the rest of the season? There needs to be a better rotation policy so if the Flames make the playoffs Smith won’t be burnt out. He needs to have more nights off

I may be mistaken, but I don’t believe Lack or Rittich have started in a non back to back situation. That is kind of ridiculous.
But one of he reasons BT wanted a true #1 was so that you had confidence putting him back in after a loss or bad game. Unlike last year.

I worried they were overplaying a 35 yr old, now its confirmed i think. Gotta go 50/50 with Rittich for a bit

This place officially jumps the shark when people start saying Smith is a problem. Dude is clear team MVP. He drops his level even 10% and we are toast. Please don’t let this narrative get leggy

One bad game confirms he played badly because of overuse?
Perhaps you need to rethink that?

He's probably been the team's MVP but I wonder what's different about the dome that seems to bring out his worst at times? It just seems like at home we see a lot more of the soft 5-hole goals and bad angle stuff like tonight.

Go back and rewatch the last 20, the warning signs have been there. just more soft goals in each week. Still a top 3 player on the whole year for our team (johnny and gio), but i think you can see the fatigue

I made a comment near tge end of the game last night in the GT thread that I hope Smith is on the bench on Saturday. He needs a break and a chance to regroup and get his head clear. I would be concerned that the floodgates could open up again against Chicago.

He had one bad game, and I totally forgive him. Not only for his overall performance this season, but wasted zero time in the interview pinning the loss squarely on himself. Was quite harsh on himself too, saying how disappointing it was to let your teammates down like that, saying he "laid an egg, so to speak". Smith will be stronger next game, he's a real gamer.
