Ouch.

Quote:
Viewership for the CFL’s championship game between the Calgary Stampeders and the Ottawa Redblacks was just 3.1 million on TSN – a decline of over 23 per cent from the 2017 game. It’s the lowest-rated game since 2001 (2.7 million) and the worst showing for TSN since they took over the broadcast rights 11 years ago.

Dickenson nailed it. People tired of seeing the big red machine.

I have to imagine there is some Stamps fatigue. I know I get excited at the prospect of seeing a Super Bowl without the Patriots so I can understand that. Also the matchup is a repeat of only two years ago. I have to imagine a Bombers vs Ti-Cats Grey Cup would have generated a lot more interest. Also it wasn't a great year for the league in general as too many teams were bad. The Riders won 12 games but were unwatchable for the most part with the 2nd worst offense in the league. The Bombers and Ottawa won 10 and 11 games but had stretches of futility and the rest of the league was .500 or below. Montreal and Toronto in particular were unwatchable nearly every game this season and when your two largest markets are horrible it's going to hurt the bottom line.

More on Eric Rogers - He tore his meniscus in the West final against the Bombers and still played in the Grey Cup game.

“Then, in the West Final, I got it caught underneath me and I’ve got a new meniscus tear in there. We got an MRI this week on it and they said there was some new damage in there. They compared it to the MRI from earlier in the season (that forced Rogers to get surgery and miss significant time at mid-season).”
Rogers has been fighting through injuries for a couple years now after an ACL tear ended what should have been his first season with the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers in training camp in 2016.

It’s been a painful, frustrating couple of years and Rogers can’t help but wonder if he’d be better off longterm by not taking any more damage playing football.

“It’s tough, if I’m able to figure something out this off-season to make it improve or just make it more consistent, then I’d love to be back,” Rogers said. “I played with Nik Lewis and (Marquay McDaniel) and they played into their early-30s, and I’ll be 28. The real goal is to be able to play for as long as you can, maybe three or four more years, but if not, I want to be able to run around a little bit.

“I’m going to need a total knee replacement at some point, probably earlier than most guys, but this whole year has been worth it because we won the Grey Cup.

“This is the most rewarding season of my career, even if when you look at it statistically, it’s not great, but coming off the two years of rehabbing and knee surgeries and then the injuries we had at the receiver position and these guys coming off two Grey Cup losses, you put everything together and it’s a great story, you can’t really write that.”

I hope Rogers shuts it down, as his health is the most important thing. Great player for the short time in a stamps uniform.

I just ran a tour for a bunch of business types moving into my building.

They're all from Ottawa.

I had to put on my Stamps hat before we started the tour. Luckily they all had a healthy sense of humour.

Although I think better temperatures played a role, I think we had double the numbers from the rally in 2014. Good to see the support

Nenshi declared Nov 27, Calgary Stampeders day

The Bow river is now renamed as the Bo Levi Mitchell river

Bo admitted they really left a mess in the Eskimo locker room

Crowd really hammered in a “one more year!” Chant

Yeah it was a great atmosphere at the rally. The weather helped alot.

Singleton could barely talk, Don Jackson is wildcard, and that first Stamp that came out is cut! A few chants of "one more year for Bo". Huff and Dickenson both cracked on the Eskimos and hoping that their locker smells like champagne for a long time. Dickenson also quipped about loving Calgary and Canadians despite his comment about Mike OShea.

Good times and was great to see the support.

Just wanted to say that I had an amazing time attending the Grey Cup in Edmonton! Even got on TSN during the trophy presentation. I must admit that Edmonton did a hell of a job hosting. Everything from the fan festivals, street parties, team parties, was all very organized and top notch. The stadium looked and felt awesome! Hopefully Calgary can put on a great show next year.

Stampeders brought the Grey Cup to the Saddledome tonight; during the intermission they interviewed DD and Bo on FlamesTV. DD “announced” Bo’s freshly signed contract extension and Bo turned beet red. Pretty funny.

The Cup is currently at Cowboys for anyone interested. Had a beer at Melrose after the game and saw it being walked in.

I liked seeing the parents on the field with their sons after the game, many who travelled from the US.

After the trophy presentation we headed straight back to Calgary and made a stop at the McDonald's in Leduc. We met the father of Ottawa WR RJ Harris while waiting in line. It was nice to hear positive things about the CFL from an American. He said his son loves Ottawa and they have both enjoyed playing and travelling around Canada.

Toronto take note. Americans respect the CFL and players are greatly appreciative of the opportunity to play here. Only "Toronto" is too good for the league. God I hate that city.
