Same AAV as Letang, but two years shorter.

...look at that. Teams that are historically better managed than the Flames have managed to retain their key players.
Forsberg in Nashville.
Malkin, Letang in Pittsburgh.
...yeah, I'm sour about it.

Not surprising at all. People were talking about paying him big bucks to come here but that's a nice bullet to dodge. He is broken way too much and we would have had to vastly overpay.

Pretty easy when the player actually wants to stay

Malkin wanted to stay badly though. Johnny didn’t

I knew when Johnny signed the last deal his intent was to leave. He only gave up 1 year of UFA which is why the $ value was where it was. Flames were not going 8 million per for a guy not willing to sign the 8 year contract at that time.

Solid deal on Burke’s part here. I still think Pittsburgh is past it’s prime but the deal in isolation is a very good one.

Pretty easy as well when you already have 3 Stanley Cups to your name, and at this point, most of what they care about is their legacy with the team and helping mentor the next generation of players entering their team.
