So you don’t trust the strangers and want to kick them out, but don’t keep them under guard through the night.
Come writers don’t be so lazy.

Not a bad episode but I feel like I did watching most of last year. Just not really caring about the characters and the pacing is slow...
Thought I would enjoy the reboot but now teetering on that belief. Maybe the problem is I watched the show live and couldn’t ff through the commercials.

Live? That's insanity.
I watched it between periods of the game last night. Still not sure which was worse.

One of my negative comments about that episode, and the Walking Dead in general, is when they have fires, it looks like they just took the Shaw fireplace and overlayed it in front of the scene.

The funny thing about that, on Talking Dead they showed how they laid out propane lines to create actual fire.

Really? Was it just me then? The fires were in the scene with the actors? It looked really badly layered.

I thought the pacing in that episode was great. They did a solid job of laying down the dynamics 6 years on, plus also had some action bits and led into the next big enemy.
I'm really liking the time forward jumps as well. This show is at its worst when it deviates too much from the comics and dwells in one place for too long (season 2, the prison, the sanctuary war).

Wait a minute --- That kid is supposed to be Rick's son?
Well, that completely changes my understanding of the episode and expectations for what's to come.
When I first saw the kid, I thought there's no way he's older than 3, meaning if there was a 6 year time jump, the kid can't possibly be Rick's. I assumed that meant we'd slowly be given some insight into what happened in the missing years, eventually explaining her scar and Alexandria's overall mistrust of outsiders.
If the kid is Rick's, I guess that answers that question.

I was little surprised they jumped into the talking zombies in this episode. What are people's thoughts on that? They are obviously now thinking, and not just responding to stimuli. Does this lead to any interesting plot points? Obviously they won't be building rockets, but if they can think and communicate, what is to stop them from using weapons, and coordinating attacks?

I don't know, I'm not convinced that is what is happening. It doesn't make sense, we have seen that the zombies are decaying. It makes no sense that as their body decays their mind evolves.

Well ya, logically it doesn't make sense. But they say "where are they" and "we can't let them get away". That, to me, sounds like complex thought. Not just mindless muttering.

I agree with what was said.
I don't think it was Walkers.

"Thinking zombies" is an oxymoron. I'm interested how they think this will work without being ridiculous and contradictory.

I'm confused then, was there someone else there? People mixed in with the walkers doing the talking?

No idea, but as Yamer said it makes no sense.
I get this is a zombie show that has stretched the rules of physics before (van falling from bridge), but I can't wrap my head around how this would happen.
It might be a full on shark jump if the zombies started to communicate via spoken word or any way for that matter.

I believe the talking zombie thing is taken directly from the comics (which I haven't read), so it's not necessarily jumping the shark.
But I agree, the idea seems ridiculous, even for the Walking Dead universe. I guess we'll see how this pans out over the next few episodes. Hopefully they'll have at least a somewhat plausible explanation.

Someone planted a walkie talkie on a zombie with a camera, and they are totally trolling these 2.

Its a comic book spoiler so I'll refrain from saying anything, even though AMC is plastering it all over social media. I got curious and fell into that rabbit hole. Stupid AMC.
I have to say S9 has been way more enjoyable since I'd have to say S5 IMO. That was the last time I was really truly invested into watching it every sunday.
