Yelesin could be particularly at risk if the KHL is more likely to come back in the fall compared to the NHL

Yelesin is under contract for next season. The Flames would have to terminate the contract for him to go back to the KHL.

Not unheard of.
See Ehliz, Yasin.

I think the fact that Yelesin did get some looks in the NHL, is a different situation as Ehliz though.

No one said it is not unheard of. My point is that the Flames control where Yelesin plays next season.
If they want him in NA, they have the power to keep him here. Would they keep a player in a situation he doesn't want to be? Doubtful but they could. If Yelesin wants to go back to the KHL, the Flames are the gatekeepers.

I wouldn't bet Russia has any better handle on this than any other country. They only thing they've got going for them is a more docile public opinion and willingness to accept things (ie. bodies) tossed under the rug.

Very different sounds good to me.

Some scouting reports on Kinnvall:
Jokke Nevalainen on Dobber Prospects podcast
https://dobberprospectsradio.podbean...ke-nevalainen/
Kinnvall talk at 1hr 4 min:
This year he moved onto a better team in SHL which helped. Offensive guy, skill, good skater. Wasn’t trusted to play a lot of ES minutes. Lots of damage on the PP, about 50% of his points. Not NHL ready, needs development time. Intriguing player. If he makes it to the NHL he will be there to produce points, not to play much defence. Nice gamble.
Ryan Pike - Fan 960 today
Development camp last year. Looked really assured. Only played 3 yrs of pro. Last year transitioned you SHL. This year doubled his point total. Second best defensive scoring in the league. Probably not a shut down guy, may struggle with physicality, that doesn’t jive with his style of play. Can skate, moves puck well. Excellent in transition, good puck-mover. He’s young, can skate.
My observations from Development Camp 2019:
95 - Johannes Kinnvall - RD - Hv71 (SHL) - Free Agent Invite
-Very mobile. Good puck mover. Undersized but some flashes of skill. Has a couple more seasons on his SHL contract. I’d be interested to see his development in a couple years.

Nhl just announced transfer agreements have been extended for 1 year. Expect the Flames to announce the signing soon.

8 out his 11 goals were on the PP.
Wonder if he is a Gustafsson replacement... Gustafsson had 60 pts in 78 NHL game 2 seasons ago.
As a side note in the SHL the top scoring d-man was born in Calgary. Kodie Curran had 49 pts in 48 games. 30 year old with 20 AHL games under his belt

The 5'11" blue-liner had 11 goals and 29 assists for 40 points in 51 games this season, which were career-highs in assists and points. It looks like the plan is he will play in Sweden next season and then jump to North America. Similar to what they did with Lerby.
So don't pencil him in next season's lineup. Although he could be available to play for the Flames once his season in Sweden is over.

good stuff, glad it's official.
Flames still only have two RHD committed to N.A. signed for next year, though.

Whatever the Flames are doing at development camp seems to be working on these undrafted free agents:
Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
Defenceman Johannes Kinnvall had multiple suitors but chose #Flames thanks to experience at development camp last July: “I had a really good impression of the Calgary Flames organization when I was there...It was a really, really easy decision for me when they wanted to sign me.”

A benefit of having the camp during Stampede when the city is in maximum party mode.

for his next season in Sweden, will it use up one of the two years on the contract?
