LFG!

I assume we’ll see Ryan moved from the taxi squad to active roster at some point today?

If they place Ryan next to Bennett, the Flames' expected win percentage goes from 51.6% (28 wins) to 52.8% (29 wins). So, putting Ryan in instead of Nordstrom means the Flames win another whole game. That's actually a pretty big impact relative to such a simple change.

They can still play Nordstrom for all the Sens games and put Ryan on the taxi squad for all the days off to maximize the salary cap gains.

I hope they play Ryan next to Bennett instead of Nordstrom.
No it doesnt.

True. I should re-phrase. Putting Ryan in instead of Nordstrom means the GSVA metric is used to predict the Flames win another whole game.

The point is: Nordstrom is the worst Flames' player currently on the regular roster, and Ryan is much better, so I hope the Flames play Ryan.

One could argue that even with Ryan in the lineup that Ryan is the worst Flames player so really, what's your point?

The point is that hockey is ####ing back, so we're gonna debate about who gets to play on the 4th line!

Nordstrom doesnt have the offense Ryan does. No debate.

What Nordstrom does bring is elite PK skills. Something the team lost a ton of over the off season when Jankowski and Reider (and Frolik before them) left for greener pastures.

Its an important role to allow the other guys less ice time, there by keeping them fresher for this truncated and compacted season. If this team wants to roll 4 lines somewhat equally, then they need PK "specialists" who can also take a somewhat regular shift. Ryan and Nordstrom will both be required to do this. Otherwise a guy like Dube/Backlund/Bennett will be thrust into that role as well as putting huge minutes on Lindholm.

The Flames are better with Ryan in the lineup than with Nordstrom in the lineup because Ryan is better than Nordstrom.

Okay, I appreciate your argument. If Nordstrom is that much better on the PK than Ryan, then it might be better to put Nordstrom in because of that and the cap savings. I don't know how they compare on the PK.

I expect the Jets to come out absolutely flying. We beat them in the play-in and that memory has to be still fresh for them. So I hope we see an absolute war tonight. GFG!!!

True. I could easily be wrong. But that's my opinion based on comparing his past 5 on 5 numbers to Ryan's.

I had to look up when the Flames last won a season opener. It was 2009. Craig Conroy was still playing for us.

Watching him play the last 2 seasons?

Last year the Bruins were 3rd best in PK% iirc....Nordstrom was #1 in SHTOI on the team.

He was very good when he was with Carolina as well.
