I was going to do exactly this...
Goaltending: bottom 5 for sure, probably bottom 3
Defense: bottom 5 probably, certainly bottom 10
Bottom 6: bottom 5
Top 6: top half, maybe top 10 if you ignore the fact that both lines get outscored 5 on 5.
PP: #1 last year
PK: no idea (but based on goaltending, lot likely very good)
It all boils down to the fact that the PP and PK have to redline just to make them a bubble team. But no wildcards this year, you have to finish top 4. I think MON, TOR and CGY are all very safe bets, leaving one spot for VAN, EDM and WPG to fight for.

There is gag worthy article on CBC about the greatest person ever.
Connor McDavid's relentless drive for self-improvement is gift that keeps on giving
https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl...rove-1.5877096
I have thought it many times, but this is my first public confession of it:
Edmonton is No Good. They really stink.

Friedman says NJ has claimed Dell, so I guess it's onto other options for the Oilers.

LOL,
With the news on Dell, I started thinking: what would be a fair return for Domingue?
Obviously they are not going to give up someone like Yamamoto for him, so I started moving down the list. But there isn't anyone else on the list. Literally no one that could help the Flames.
The only possible return would be a pick.

On the eve of training camp, McDavid told reporters that his team must do a better job of keeping the puck out of the Edmonton net.
"No one's hiding their head in the sand here," he said at the time. "Everyone understands where we're at."
And he plans to lead by example in that regard.
"Offensively, I think I check off most of the boxes," he said. "Defensively is where it's at. It's the little things: stopping on pucks, winning battles, hounding pucks on the forecheck. Getting involved in battles and winning faceoffs.
"It's just rounding out that game and being solid all over the ice."
|
You do literally none of those things. None of them.

What evidence do you have from history that causes you to be so sure?
Don't really want Yamamoto, but surely we could get a couple 2nds.

I'd rather watch them flop around like a fish than give them any greater chance of better goaltending. Even if we don't get a pick out of it.

Trust me when I say that the other NHL GM's are waiting for Koskinen to fail because the asks when the Oilers start desperately looking for goaltending is going to be huge.
Holland has put himself into a corner here and is in line for a fleecing.

I love the Edmonton Oilers. I mean, I fricken hate them, but they are so bad at practically everything in that organization top to bottom that they provide us with comedic entertainment that is very hard to beat.
If I feel like a laugh:
1) Watch a stand-up comedy special
2) Watch the Oilers
I pick option 2 every time.
Surely, you can't laugh as much as when you are watching reruns of Seinfeld or Friends, right? Those are kind of 'feel good' shows to re-watch, even if you have laughed at those same exact situations multiple times already. Well, that's pretty much the Oilers too, no?
The Oilers are as completely funny and absurd. They are just like one of the episodes from Sally4Ever - they crap the bed and act crazy, but somehow go about it as if nothing happened.

Oh I think that's already happening.
Sub .900 save% and a GAA over 4. And more than that...he has looked exactly like those numbers would suggest. Plus with that defense in front of him? Yikes.
Not sure why they thought he would be a legitimate option. Even last years numbers were pedestrian at best.
Maybe he turns it around and its just a bad start...but my guess is that he is what he is and what he has been........ using a pretty large sample size.
This entire season could be a write off in a couple weeks.

Oh boy... that article it loaded with Gems.
Quote:
Leon Draisaitl offers his condolences to defencemen on the other six Canadian teams forced to contend with the foot speed of Connor McDavid this shortened NHL season.
"It's so hard to defend," Draisaitl says of the Edmonton Oilers captain's burst up ice. "I wouldn't want to be that guy standing at the blue-line with him coming 1,000 miles an hour at me. He just has that gift that no one else has."
|
Too bad for Leon every NHL team wants to be the guy standing at the blue line against the rest of your elite AHL roster.
Quote:
"Offensively, I think I check off most of the boxes," he said. "Defensively is where it's at. It's the little things: stopping on pucks, winning battles, hounding pucks on the forecheck. Getting involved in battles and winning faceoffs.#
|
Maybe Connor will eventually figure out that defence is about a mindset and when you limit the oppositions opportunities to score it also limits your own. I doubt it, as they’re finished offensively if him & Neon Leon don’t put up points.
Quote:
On Saturday, McDavid's linemate Zack Kassian missed the game due to the birth of his daughter Olivia. And the Canadiens were the more rested team.#

Oiler fans losing their minds on defensive pair changes from an obviously annoyed head coach.

Two dmen that were circled as ready to advance up the roster, potentially being sat?
Chicago cast off to the top pairing?
