I'll say one thing. It's a huge D. Kylington is the only small guy at 6'0" 183lb. Mackey is 6'2" 183. Tanev 6'2" 197. Everyone else is above 6'2" and 210 lbs. Well above in a bunch of cases.
Thought I read somewhere that Valimaki could play RD, I'm not sure.

Whether it's Zadorov-Gudbranson or Zadorov-Valimaki, either one would be a gamble. I just hope Sutter can make Gudbranson look decent the same way he made Stone look decent last season.

Anyways we have 9 NHL defensemen right now, something else has to be coming.

You're thinking of Kylington, who plays LD but prefers right.

Seems like a trade of a defenseman for a forward is on the boil. The issue is that I assume it would mean one of the good defensemen on the roster is getting traded.

The only way this makes sense if Andersson and Monahan are both going to Buffalo. How many #6 dmen does a team actually need?

Disagree entirely - our D core is far stronger than theirs. Not sexy, by any stretch. And lacks a big offensive, PP guy. But it is solid defensively.

The Oilers' D is god####ingawful

Agreed. I think it means at least one of Andersson, Valimaki, Kylington, or (unlikely) Hanifin will be on the move.

Stone makes lots of sense: lives here, cheap, no learning curve, can sit in the press box and come in with no issue, dependable. Can be buryed if cap is an issue.

Gudbrandson makes no sense unless there's a move.

I like the signing - Stone was fantastic under Sutter last year. Also, someone mentioned a couple days ago that the Oilers might sign him, which concerned me greatly, as they desperately need a player like him. So it's a win and a win.

And when they signed Gudranson, I figured that meant no Stone, which was a bit disappointing. Now this makes the Gud signing a little bizarre, to say the least.

Stone was great last year and clearly wants to be here. I like the signing

He's picked up all RDs. So Andersson or Kylington (who slots in on the right sometimes). I suppose he could move Tanev but that would be stupid.

Except, not really.

Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Mangi-Monahan-Coleman
Pitlick-Backlund-Dube
Lucic-Richardson-Lewis
x: Ritchie, Gawdin

Hanifin-Tanev
Zadorov-Andersson
Valimaki-Gudbranson
x: Stone

Markstrom
Vladar

$1 million cap space remaining. Kylington either goes on waivers, or stays up in place of Gawdin and the Flames run 13F 8D.

Welcome to your 2021-22 Calgary Flames, my dude. You're gonna have a bad time.

There's gotta be a major move coming. If this is how they start the season, I won't be tuning in.

Part of something bigger? Stone, GUDBRANSON, Lucic and a 1st for Eichel? Works from
A salary cap perspective. If I’m Brad Treliving, I’m picking up the phone now to Buffalo.

I guess that makes sense. If the flames don’t intend on having either of them make the team out of camp, it could be no more moves are on the way as both of them could be sent to the farm team.
