Make sure you give yourself not only sufficient warmup time, but also time to practice putting on their greens. Get comfortable with the speed of the greens and you will have a good round.

i am hoping that their greens are similar in speed to serenity and blue devil as they have both skewed towards fast this year.

i will be leaving my house early as i live in the deep SE and will likely leave about 2 hours early just to give myself some time and not feel rushed

Playing Athabasca on Saturday.

Really looking forward to it. Such a good course.

I worked at the Athabasca golf and country club when I was 15 until I was 18. That's when I moved to go to college and that was the last time I played it. Which is 35 years ago. I only get back for funerals now, but I was really hoping to get there to play a round this year.

Athabasca is a great track. There's a similarly good course up in Whitecourt as well. Haven't played either in 15yrs now but find memories of both.

Athabaskan is a gem. Not that I ever have a reason to be up there to play it. But I’m glad I got to when I did.

You could make a pretty decent road trip up that way. Whitecourt, Barrhead, Westlock, Athabasca. Good memories of all back in the day but has probably been over 20 years since I have played any of them.

i had a 1.30 tee time, so that will be pushed back.....tis that time of year i guess

Heading to Nova Scotia early October for a golf event. Pretty excited about this, it will be my first time east of Saskatchewan.

I have been told to have some rain gear. Any suggestions what to get and where?

Hard to go wrong with Galvin Green or Sunderland. It’s just great stuff, and while it’s not cheap, it’s cut well and fits really nicely as a result. I know a guy who has a “rubber” jacket from Canadian Tire that he thinks is sufficient. To me, it’s ridiculous. You’re going to get soaked with sweat from that because it won’t breathe at all. (Speaking from experience as a poor, stubborn Slava had a jacket like that backpacking in Alaska years ago and it was miserable!)

Anyway, that’s where I’d aim. At this point in the year, if you don’t want to drop the money for good gear, maybe ask around about borrowing some?

Golftown had a lot of weather gear 40% off a couple weeks ago, maybe check if that sale is still on.

I bought a Galvin Green jacket but still expensive even with the discount. They did have a lot of other brands on sale too, at different price ranges.

Update on the club situation:

Driver & Fairway woods: I ended up getting the Cobra King F9S 10.5deg driver (F9S is the Golf Town edition lacking a CNC milled face but I'm not making money off my golf game so eh) and a matching 5 wood, skipping a 3 or 4 wood.
Irons: Found a set of TaylorMade M CGB -- the new version of my clubs -- at Golf Town for $620 () just missing a 7 Iron, but as two of my irons had mismatched grips -- the 3 and the PW -- they wouldn't accept them on trade (which is a stupid rule). So the R7 CGB Max set is getting new Golf Pride CP2 Pro midsize grips, those will be ready on Monday.
Putter: En route, a used but good condition TaylorMade TP Red Collection Ardmore 3 and an Evnroll MidLock XL grip.
Extras: Even though I have a sand wedge with my current set, I decided to round out the set with a Hummingbird H7 since I seem to always find the side of the bunker closest to the hole.

That still leaves me one spot open in the bag for another club if I decide that I'm missing something in my set.

To me it is always a balance buying rain gear as it is a struggle between buying good stuff (likely $400 for jacket and pants) that works well ( I always question would I head out if it that really rainy) versus buying middle of the road stuff with the goal of keeping somewhat comfortable during a mid-round storm.

Go to golf town and look around, they almost always have sales on stuff and don’t forget to think about getting some all-weather gloves.

I survived my round at glen eagles yesterday and was around 110. Found it hard getting into a rhythm as it was the fist time in a while I was in a cart and I thought there were some long drives between holes. Some great views with huge elevation changes. Greens seemed to be faster on the front than the back - but we teed off at 2.30 so maybe some growth there. Golfed in long pants, and was warm on 14 holes and just right for 4.

I could see the course being very difficult on a windy day.

Cool story time: My Father in law, who will be 70 in November got an Albatross on a 512 yard Par 5. Drained it from 234 yards, simply amazing. Followed that up hitting it in the water off the next tee. “Well that was short lived” he said, what a guy.

A 234 yard shot is impressive at any age

So is that 91 and 92 on the 18...or 91 and 85?

The wife and I had an 8.15 am tee time at serenity this morning. At 8.10 they were still about 45 minutes away from going.

Well pulled the pin as that would have wrecked the day for her.

It is that time of year folks.
