Wow, talk about a trade. Super risky. Not sure how to vote on this one.

This is exactly the type of deal that shouldn't be allowed. Trading firsts two years from now for tweener type players. It is how disparity broadens in the league.

I voted no mostly as I don't think Robertson is has highly touted outside of the Toronto hype machine.

I guess it all depends on where you put Robertson but he is highly touted everywhere I've seen. It's not just a Toronto thing. Plus whose to say the 2023 first will turn out. Robertson has a couple years of development and has shown improvements every year.

PLUS Minny has added a 2022 2nd.

PLUS the trade stipulations depending on where the pick is.

PLUS Detroit is winning the cup in 2023 so it will be the 31st pick.

It is the Dallas pick. So you could win the cup and it wouldn't matter as the pick is tied to the position Dallas is in the standings.

I'm not going to quibble over how the vote falls. If the league feels it's unfair I will accept that without any argument. I would note though that Robertson is not Toronto hype. He was rated the 25th best prospect in the NHL by THN. He was rated 28th in Wheeler's most recent list that included this year's draftees. Dobber rates him an 8.5 on fantasy upside with a 9.5 on NHL certainty, as an Elite goal-scorer winger with all-star potential.

His NHLe puts him in between a 1st and 2nd liner.

Given the randomness of the sim I'm taking the risk of that pick being high, and then putting conditions on top of that to give Detroit some protection.

But my point is Robertson is a legit blue chipper. He's certainly not a tweener.

So I'm planning on going for it the year after next and I'll have the capspace to hopefully bring in some nice players. I plan on being competitive in 2022-2023

I just think that a lower asset team shouldn't be spending firsts on something that isn't a sure thing. In 2023 Detroit could have an AHLer, a late first and a second to show for what could be Bedard or Michkov

A 2023 1st is currently at it's lowest value and will only increase.

Detroit's asset base is probably the lowest in the league.

While the SIM is random, Lee and Seguin have both been moved and more guys will be shipped out I'm sure.

Detroit should not be moving their 1sts unless they are getting bona-fide young guys. Robertson is too much of a gamble.

Make the prospect a Marco Rossi or someone with Top 10 pedigree and then maybe it's OK.

I agree with the points raised by other folks. I just don't see enough risk coverage on the conditions for top 5 and top 10 positioning of the pick
