Default Judge orders Apple to apologize and say Samsung didn't copy iPad.

Quote:
Apple Inc. (AAPL) was ordered by a judge to publish a notice on its U.K. website and in British newspapers alerting people to a ruling that Samsung Electronics Co. didn’t copy designs for the iPad.

The notice should outline the July 9 London court decision that Samsung’s Galaxy tablets don’t infringe Apple’s registered designs, Judge Colin Birss said today. It should be posted on Apple’s U.K. home page for six months and published in several newspapers and magazines to correct any impression the South Korea-based company was copying Apple’s product, Birss said.

The order means Apple will have to publish “an advertisement” for Samsung, Richard Hacon, a lawyer for Cupertino, California-based Apple, told the court. “No company likes to refer to a rival on its website.”

Way to perfect. Maybe now they'll stop with the ridiculous lawsuits. I guess it sucks when Samsung is kicking your ass in terms of innovation and 'cool' products, nevermind selling them like crazy.

How many Galaxy Tabs have been sold this year? Trying to look up sales figures but can't find anything for 2012.

You're aware they're both playing this silly game, right?

I was referring more to the phones.

There's no way this decision will ever be upheld. Regardless of which side of the fence everyone is, this is bordering on unprofessional. Apple has won more than enough rulings against Samsung in a few different countries (including the US). They can't expect Apple to post an ad on their own website which would essentially undermine the decision of every case they've won.

I realize it's cool to hate Apple and all, but the only thing this decision does is make the British legal system look suspicious at best - and like a laughing stock at worst.

Samsung kicking ass in terms of innovation - this company (and others like LG) have tear down labs to actually copy other companies tech. While Samsung certainly does innovate sometimes, they certainly are not spinning out their own original innovations for the most part. Not saying Apple etc doesnt do the same - lets just paint the right picture.

Exactly. It's astounding to me how few people understand how rare it is that true innovation ever comes out of the big players.

Actually I think it makes the British legal system look great, because they got this one right where many others couldn't.

I don't really care what the punishment was. Ef them all.

Delay until the appeal has been granted,

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-0...ng-tablet.html

Hypothetical question:

Would you agree with

Samsung having to put out an advert and on their website that they copy Apple designs is fair game, if Apple wins the appeal?

If it helped stop the ridiculous lawsuits, absolutely I would.

Samsung sold 50 million phones the last quarter. They're pretty much blowing Apple out of the water right now, which is why it makes Apple look pretty bad when they sue for every little thing that Android does.

Might have something to do with the companies' release cycles. The last iPhone was nearly a year ago while the Galaxy S3 came out in May/June.

Not to mention Samsung has a huge number of models at all price points. Comparing sales of an iPhone to a DoubleTime or a Gravity Smart head to head isn't particularly useful.

I don't understand why you're bringing up phones?

This lawsuit is for the tablets.

iPads are leading in sales over the Galaxy Tab.

I agree that tech patents are out of control and the system is broken.

Leading? Apple owns nearly 70% of the tablet market. It's closer to owning the market than leading it.
