Those of us that are old enough still remember the gloomy seven years of mediocrity and no playoffs from 1996 to 2003 until Miikka single-handedly brought the team back to confidence and success. For that alone, #34 should hang off the rafters. .
Kiprusoff is by far my most favourite Flame of all times. I doubt anyone else will be, ever. Exactly, and I hope Flames management hasn't forgotten that. Simply one of the best and my honest favourite to play in a Flames jersey.
Retiring his number would be the right thing to do.
My favorite player of all time. I remember when playing nhl 08 when i was simming if Kipper didn't have a good GAA and Save % i would go back and re sim it even if we were winning lol
About halfway in, he says that he plans to come to town to "surprise" the guys but he can't talk about the dates yet. Reading between the lines, I'd say the predictions of a Forever a Flame (hopefully retirement) ceremony were correct.
"Johnny Hockey's fun to watch."

Love how he faked poor english to avoid interviews. He just didn't want to be bothered. I've always like how quirky goalies are. He was the best on the planet for a time. Looking forward to the interview.
Hopefully he'll have some amusing stories about hunting the child eating dragons in the fog obscured fjords of evil and spending his nights ripping the hearts out of still breathing Chimeras to roast over an unholy fire.

Assuming this is pre-promotion for a Forever a Flame ceremony, you'd have to think that Iginla will be there if he isn't playing anywhere. That will be interesting to see that he'll likely get as big of a reaction from the crowd as Kipper.
I hope they have it at one of the games I already have tickets to. March 16 against the Sharks would work nicely for me.
My guess is that they'll have it on a weeknight game against a team that isn't a great draw in Calgary -- so, I'm predicting it will be the January 22 game against Buffalo.

I didn't even think of this, but now that you mention it, it does make me wonder how much of the old gang will show up, especially the ones from the '04 cup run.

I actually disagree. Everyone loves Iggy but he was literally in the building this past spring playing for the Kings. The roof will absolutely blow off the Dome when Kipper comes back. The Kipper chant will be epic.
P.S. They can call the ceremony whatever they want but Kipper will be the last player to ever wear #34 for the Flames.
Greatest Flames goalie of all time and it's not even close , sorry Vernon. Sad that since I have been following the Flames (early 90s) Smith is probably third best already
