14-15 flames-esque seasons for both the canucks and oilers this year. Everything going right for inexperienced squads with no track record. Crazy stats, timely goals. The works.
Law of averages will bring its hammer down on them before all is said and done though. Just like it did for those Flames.

That's the thing that gets me. EVERYTHING is going so right for the Coilers, including some incredibly obvious help from the refs...and they are still 'in the fight' for a playoff spot, and not running away with it. Any other team gets the help that they do, and they'd likely be running away with the division.

The Oilers I'd say have more experience than these Canucks. This iteration of their core has had to endure some trials after falling out of the playoffs in '17 and had to learn how to play hard for a full season and avoid the mid season fall off. Credit is due.
The nucks results are a little harder to buy into. Especially when their spring chickens are just scoring at will.
HOWEVER the Oilers specials teams have been absolutely ridiculous and are absolutely propping them up. It's an aberration to not be falling much closer to 20% on the PP this late in the year.
That's something that is bound to come back to earth, even if it's not until next season.
The lack of adversity, lack of slumps on both sides smells very off. Usually reality slams those kind of "seasons of destiny" hard in the end to remind you that it's not actually that easy in this league.

I don't recall the 14/15 flames team having a Mcdavid, Draisaitl, Pettersson, Hughes, Markstrom, Boeser on those teams though.
lots of miraculous 3rd period comeback wins that team had.
the Canucks and Oil are blowing teams out for the most part with elite PPs.

I'd consider the large amount of injuries they have dealt with adversity.

"As everyone knows, the Oilers have the #1 power play in the league. You get that by scoring more goals than anyone else on the power play."
No s***. These announcers...

It was another form of good fortune. Just different kinds for the oil and nucks this year.
Cinderella seasons come in different forms for mid rebuild teams. Believe me sir, it's not that easy for young clubs to waltz in and insta-contend.
You're not going to blow out your way to a finals.
Best advice is stay humble. These seasons with exciting young players can end extra heart breaky when experience starts to reveal its advantage.

Missing the playoffs 12 of the last 13 years is adversity.
You haven’t dealt with that so well, over the years.
