Wait.?!?! Gaudreauvertime was hired by Lewis Gross?

You have got to be kidding.

The draft committee has decided to award Bedard to "x" team.

Oh that will work just fine.

Toronto video review team or the NHL discipline team come to mind

They have no bias and very fair and consistent

A draft committee to decide the order of the draft?

Haha

That is one of the worst ideas I think I've ever heard.

Give more power to the biased boneheads that can't even figure out what a ####ing kicking motion is

Maybe they shouldn't even play the games? Too much randomness in hockey anyway, let the committee meet at the start of the year and award the Stanley Cup to the most deserving team.

Isn’t that something that CP just collectively decided and didn’t have any evidence to back it up outside of his posting essentially stopping after the contract was signed.

Pretty decent chance we see Makar with a cup and a Conn Smythe trophy at age 23. Johnny is special, but not that special

Makar is an absolute super star and maybe the best skater we've seen in a long time. I'll stop short of comparisons with Orr because A: I'm 65 and did watch Orr on HNIC back in the day.(I saw the Leafs win that cup in 67') B: It's been a long time and it's a totally different era however I still saw Orr as even more game dominant and C: Orr won the scoring title and is to date the only D Man ever to do it.

When Maker wins the scoring title I'll put him in the same class as Orr or considering todays NHL even better. Until then he's a superstar and lets see the rest of the career.

Yeah, I would trade both signed Johnny and Tkachuk for Makar

He is the most valuable on that team not Mackinnon

In a restart-the-league draft Makar almost certainly goes #1, in both scenarios if you include existing contracts or not (ie. you'd have to sign new contracts with every player)

Hes top 3 but I do think teams value centers so much that mcdavid and matthews go 1-2 with makar 3

Mackinnon goes #2, not Matthews.
But I agree most people would put Makar after the centres.

Perhaps, but if you factor contract value and age it's pretty tough to argue against Makar.

5x9M vs. 4x12.5M vs. 2x11.64M

MacKinnon 1x6.3M and then say 8x12M would be a closer call.

I'm not prepared to call him Orr's equal either.

But he is starting to show that he may be the best defenseman since Orr. But yes, we need more data.

In a league-wide draft with all fresh contracts, I would guess that it goes:

1) McDavid
2/3) MacKinnon/Makar
4) Matthews

But if it were up to me, I would probably take Makar #1 - first, because of his age, 2nd, because his skill set is more rare than the forwards, and third, because a defenseman can control a game more than a forward.

Here’s a fun question: who’s the RHD GOAT?

Most of the greats are LH…off the top of my head MacInnis and Chelios from the previous generations, but I’m sure I’m missing more.

Weber, Burns, Doughty could be near the conversation, but not at the top. Same for Zubov

Wasn't Lidstrom an RD?

Edit: I seem to remember him on the left side a lot, but I also have it in my head that he played the right side... which would gel if he was coming up the ice (into the camera) on the left

Edit 2: I know he's a left shot, but that doesn't preclude him from playing the right side
