I always wonder about these shenanigans, I often tend to look at both sides of it though to try and figure out, in my own mind, the truth.

Lehner might be hurt, hip surgery is no joke. Buuut....when did they learn of this hip injury? The Knights didnt even make the playoffs. Monahan needed hip surgery and they shut him down in March? And the Flames were making the playoffs.

So this could have been addressed a long time ago and probably should have.

This gives VGK some sweet, sweet LTIR relief. Which is good for them. Ergo Shenanigans.

Buuuut....it also leaves them without a starting Goaltender and not much in the way of available replacements or cap in which to procure one....which is bad.

So I dont know what the hell is going on here. It seems like incompetence more than anything else at this point. It seems to me that they should have shut him down last season and started rehabbing him for this one so they'd have a goalie.

Maybe Eichel can play in net?

If Vegas had addressed this a couple of months ago, they wouldn't have needed to trade Pacioretty for nothing. I'm figuring they didn't think he would need surgery of this magnitude.

I wouldn't be surprised if Robin Lehner has played his last game as a Golden Knight. He has been highly critical of their medical protocol and the shabby way they treat players.

Their medical staff must be as good as the Oilers and they must care for their players as much as the Oilers.

Vegas loves shiny, new things. I wonder if Bobrovsky is shiny enough for them?

If you are Florida this is your chance.

Retain some salary and take a Broissoit back in the deal?

Thats sort of the point. Is it shenanigans or is it incompetence?

It kind of seems like incompetence.

That would be pretty hilarious if both Tkachuk and Goodrow misses the playoffs next year after going to the teams that they chose.

I'm positive it's incompetence. If it were a shenanigan, they would have pulled it to save a valuable asset instead of waiting until the asset was lost.

He sure as hell isn't $10,000,000 worth of shiny.

Right now, CapFriendly has Vegas and Florida #4 and #5 in cap hits, with both well over the limit. Neither team is in any position to do the other one any favours.

Why not both. Vegas already shot themselves in the foot last season with incompetent attempts at cap shenanigans.

I wonder if this surgery is against Vegas doctors recommendation and they try to break the contract.

Agree with you here. They would have either gone hard at one of the other names available, signed the deal, then announced Lehner's surgery, or at least got a deal in place with another team before weakening their hand in a deal.
Basically right now they have to either run with what they have, or overpay for a starter that is equal or less in cost, since they can't take any money back in the deal.

Vegas is looking damn good at 10-2 and Thompson and Hill are both playing great. Short sample size so far but as I mentioned in the off season, I liked what Thompson did in his 20 games he got last year. This year so far:

Thompson: 6-2-0, 2.01 GAA, 0.934 save percentage
Hill: 4-0-0, 1.72 GAA, 0.940 save percentage

Also their top 6 forwards in 12 games:

Eichel 13 points, +11
Stephenson 10 points, +8
Stone 10 points, +9
Karlsson 9 points, +4
Marchessault 8 points, +3
Smith 8 points, +5

And their top 3 defenseman in 12 games:

Pieterangelo: 9 points, +1
Theodore: 8 points, +12
Roy: 6 points, +2

Only 12 games in but they may are looking real strong. I think they are 1 more forward away up front from causing real damage in the playoffs.

Yeah feels like they’re going to run away with the division here while the Alberta teams and LA lag behind.

Exactly. Mark Stone's back hasn't given out on him yet (it will) and Eichel is always one big hit away from the end of his season.

Also that goaltending isn't likely to hold up all year. They'll have their issues too.

I think some people need to look at the Pacific standings from last January

Ducks, Knights, Kings

They are off to a good start but it's a long year
