Yeah especially with AC: Valhalla coming out this year, I really need to get back into Vikings. Watched season 1 back in the day and just kind of petered out with it halfway through. Definitely going to give it another shot

Season 1 of Vikings is a bit rough and low budget. But every year got better. I've really enjoyed pretty much all of it. I appreciate how they don't waste their time on meaningless filler between big events, and just skip ahead years to the good stuff.

I think Uthred in Last Kingdom is a much better character than Ragnar. (Season 4 is still great, but it feels like they are running out of things to say with their story telling).

The plot movement and supporting cast in Viking are better, it boarders on fantasy a little bit more which should make sense since Uthred is a fictional interpretation of real events, while Ragnar is a semi mythical character of legend whos "sons" are very much real historical figures that used his name to build up their own fantastical legends (I've only seen what is on Netflix seasons 1-3). When telling the story of Vikings they are trying to convey a realistic version of historic legends, when telling the story of the last Kingdom they are trying to convey a narrative version of history).

I'd say watch both, but watch Vikings first, it starts out about 50 - 60 years before the Last Kingdom starts. So chronologically Vikings can give you interesting background insight into the Last Kingdom

Thanks folks! Looks like I’ll start with Vikings first, and follow that up with The Last Kingdom

My issue with Vikings;

Spoiler!

Bottom line is just watch seasons 1-3 and save yourself the disappointment of going further.

Ricky Gervais After Life is a real gem. Goes from funny to dead serious and plays heartstrings and funny bone equally well.

My favourite character is Anne. I love their bench conversations.

Just finished Season 2 last night, looked like that could be the end of the series, but a pleasant surprise to read there will be a Season 3. Really enjoy it.

Dont want to delve too much into that but wow....that show really turns on a dime from time to time. Shifting from hilarious to sad to heartbreaking and back again.

I loved it. I liked Season 1 and I thought Season 2 was even better.

Its just...relatable and visceral down-to-earth storytelling.

I really enjoyed "Hell Or High Water" starring Chris Pine, Ben Foster, Jeff Bridges and Gil Birmingham. This is a fantastic film and I can't believe it took me this long to see it.

The screenplay was done by Taylor Sheridan who wrote Sicario and Wind River, and this too has his characteristic lack of expositional dialogue, which allows the characters to take centre stage.

Jeff Bridges steals the show of course, man that guy is good.

Completely first world problems, but I hate how Netflix gets the new The Last Dance episodes a day after ESPN in the States does. As a die-hard NFL fan, I follow lots of Americans on Twitter, on Sunday nights they're just going off on it while watching live. As someone single and quarantined which can get a bit lonely, it'd be fun live-watching it with Twitter, instead of avoiding it for spoilers. Ah well..still can't wait for tomorrow, but just wanted to complain haha

I’ve heard great things about the documentary Secret Love, which has Alberta roots. The producer lived in Fort Saskatchewan, Red Deer and St. Albert. The film is about a lesbian couple who kept their relationship secret for almost 70 decades. One of the women was an aunt of the producer-filmmaker. I heard an interview with him on CHED radio this week. He gave the women chances to back out of the production but they felt their story needed to be told.

Edit: 70 years, not decades.
