Hard to say whether Brad is part of the OBC or not. While his dad was good friends with Pat Quinn from his time in Vancouver, was also a millionaire who was able to give his son Brad a co-founder title of WPHL the year after he left playing in the ECHL and then subsequently bought the Central Hockey League and then appointed Brad commissioner...I guess he probably had some help along the way.

Everybody has help along the way. He still built a full resume that warrants his status

Interesting that you mention the energy industry. A very good friend of mine is a top executive with a big company. He's not on CP, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was someone of his ilk lurking around here. Still, we are talking about an elite position that very few people are qualified for, OBC or not. Pro sports leagues are very different than any other business, and any outsider would be hamstrung by the lack of industry contacts regardless of how good of a manger they might be.

In three years, the answer to “would you trade Mangiapane for Eichel” will be 90/10 “of course, are you dumb?”.

He wasn’t even on the table, and you know what I mean.

Failing to offer Phaneuf for Thornton all over again.

And what a 'full' resume it is.

1. Born the son of a billionaire.
2. Dick around through his 20s trying to make the NHL and never being more than a bad ECHL defensemen.
3. Commissioner of a semi-pro hockey league that a bunch of his dad's rich friends agree to blow money forming teams in.
4. Run that into the ground in 5 years and help the few remaining not completely bankrupt teams join another failing semi-pro league that dies within a decade
5. Get a job as an assistant GM in the NHL with absolutely no qualifications other than the owner being another billionaire friend of his fathers.
6. Do that job for 10 years making the playoffs 3 times and getting out of the first round once.
7. Jump from there to GM of the Flames where he needs a more experienced guy above him, and his former boss below him to help guide him.
8. Profit.

Team just won a game where BT's free agent goalie was amazing, Hanifin and Lindholm played major roles, this year's free agent defensemen both played okay (and Gudbrandson better than okay, also with a tone-setting fight).... Tanev looked fantastic.

So I ... yeah I would have liked Eichel. But geez, the team is winning, parts that underperformed last year are playing well this year.

Is it a perfect team? No. Still short a true top grade 1C and possibly still short another top pairing D-man, although Hanifin is showing better and better.

Enough to win a round or two? Hopefully we'll find out.

He played in the WHL, AHL and ECHL for 8 years. Definitely no Yzerman but when you start off with such an absurd summary its hard to take any of the rest of the post seriously.

Your whole screed is so rank with absolute BS that it's hardly worth responding to, but I have time on my hands and don't want any gullible soul to think you're doing more than spin obvious lies.

Wrong. Jim Treliving isn't a billionaire, and certainly wasn't one in 1969 when Brad was born. At that time, in fact, he was a 28-year-old man who had just bought his first pizza franchise.

Wrong. As CASe333 points out, he made it as far as the AHL, and played pro hockey for six years altogether.

Wrong. He was, in fact, the co-founder of the league, and it was not owned by ‘a bunch of his dad’s rich friends’.

Wrong. Treliving built the WPHL up from nothing to 14 teams before it merged with the Central Hockey League. The CHL was under one corporate ownership and simply bought out the WPHL, taking over 10 of its teams in the process. The merged league (which Treliving had nothing to do with managing) then lasted for 13 more seasons before merging with the ECHL.

I haven't been able to find any connection between Larry Ellman and Jim Treliving, except that Treliving was a member of a group that at one point tried to buy the Phoenix Coyotes. Are you honestly trying to say that all rich men know one another and routinely hire each other's kids?

6. Do that job for 10 years making the playoffs 3 times and getting out of the first round once.
Gee, the fact that the team went through multiple bankruptcies and several sets of owners couldn't possibly have had anything to do with it, could it?

7. Jump from there to GM of the Flames where he needs a more experienced guy above him, and his former boss below him to help guide him.
It was the ‘more experienced guy above him’ who chose to hire him. As for people to ‘help guide him’, I suppose all other GMs are Superman and don't need any staff or assistants?

Lol. Yeah, I shouldn't have discounted those 15 games he played in the AHL where he got 1 assist. A travesty to leave that off his stelar resume. And 63 games in Junior over 4 years, can't forget that. And since accuracy is so important he also had 14 games in the IHL and 11 games in the BCJHL.

Yeah, Darryl Sutter is a hall of fame coach. Good thing Edwards signed him to replace the last of Treliving's many coaching mis-hires.

Evidence this was Edwards' doing? The question has often been asked but never answered. All you clowns ever have to offer is that Treliving can't have hired a coach like Sutter because he is too stupid, and you know he's too stupid because he never hired a coach like Sutter. A six-year-old child could see the illogic.

Attacking his pro career is pretty immature. Criticizing him for carving out a playing career? Odd
