I've often heard Mangiapane praised for his motor, but never for his generator.

The 0-6-1 Arizona Coyotes will be visiting The Great 8 and the rest of the Washington Capitals at Capital One arena tonight. Arizona has allowed an astonishing 4.86 GA/GP through their first seven games.
Can Ovechkin get to 800 goals before the end of the night?

I'm going to try to catch this one. Would be fantastic to see him pot a hatty or more against the hapless Coyote.
Might tie or surpass Hull tonight. Would be neat to get that record vs Coyotes as he scored that insanity goal from his back vs the Coyotes that would time.

Ovechkin scored a EN goal against Phoenix last night. It still counts.
1 Wayne Gretzky — 894 [1487 GP]
2 Gordie Howe — 801 [1767 GP]
3 Jaromir Jagr — 766 [1733 GP]
4 Brett Hull — 741 [1269 GP]
5 Alex Ovechkin — 739, *29 Oct: 9G/8GP [1205 GP]

I am not an Ovechkin fanboy by any stretch, but IMO, this is the greatest goal I have ever seen. And I am old.

It's right up there with Bobby Orr's famous flying-in-the-air-parallel-to-the-ice move, isn't it?

It isn't as famous, but it should be because it is an infinitely better goal (and I AM a huge Orr fan)

Fair enough. Let's face it, the Orr goal is that famous mostly because a photographer happened to click the shutter at exactly the right moment. The Ovechkin goal wouldn't look as impressive in a still photo, but on video it's awe-inspiring.

Orr's goal was also a Stanley Cup winner in overtime.

That certainly helps. It was an iconic moment. But it wouldn't have been such an iconic photo if Orr hadn't looked like Superman flying above the ice.

Apparently there have only been two game 7 OT goals in the cup finals:
1950 and 1954.
Gotta think that would be memorable if it happened today since it's arguably the most exciting thing that can possible happen in hockey.

Ovechkin takes his four game goal-scorimg streak to Tampa tonight, looking for goal #740one goal shy of Brett Hull, and a tie for fourth place all time. Hull did it in 1,269 games.

I know it's been brought up multiple times already, but man, those lockout years and the Covid reduction in games really messed up what could have been.
Ovi 154 goals away. If he can pot another 40 goals this year, 40 next, and 30 after that. He'd be 44 away at age 39. With the way athletes train these days, hoping he can do a 30 and 20 goal season after. It'd be real exciting to watch, that's for sure.

Dammit. Sorry about that.
Ovechkin scored #740 v. Florida last night in an OT loss, setting him one goal back from Brett Hull for #4 on the All-Time list. Hull scored his last goal on Mar 21, 2004, in his 1,257th game. Ovechkin should very easily catch and pass Hull with another fifty games to go to score two goals.
1 Wayne Gretzky 894 [1487 GP]
2 Gordie Howe 801 [1767 GP]
3 Jaromir Jagr 766 [1733 GP]
4 Brett Hull 741 [1269 GP]
5 Alex Ovechkin 740, *4 Nov: 10G/10GP [1207 GP]

I've got to say that I'm pulling for Ovi. To see the goal scoring record fall will be amazing. I remember Gretzky retiring, but was too young for the high points of his career to remember those. This will be the one that I will remembered.
Ovi has always seemed like a player who loves the game as well. Loves his country and is a genuine person. He belongs up there with Gretzky as people that need to be celebrated.

I think anyone who was a hold out before became a fan of Ovi watching him celebrate the Cup. Pretty sure he was absolutely tilted for a solid two months after the win.
It was fun to watch.
