It could have been the placement of the ballista arrow that affected the dragon so much but people are right here in saying that it shouldn't be that easy, otherwise that weapon would have been everywhere back in dragon times.
Who says they had the technology to make that weapon 300 years ago?

They even set this up earlier in the series when Joffrey got his first crossbow he explained to the Margaery Tyrell that it was a new technology.

Well shooting a big arrow isn't exactly a hard idea to conjure up in a fantastical medieval world where archers are commonplace and dragons were a common threat

Good catch though. If true then it makes the ballista introduction a little less of an eyeroller.

The episode ended and I could't believe it was over. Felt like I'd only been watching for about 15-20 minutes or so. Awesome show.

The funny things I'm reading today are people complaining that a single person wouldnt be able to wind the ropes of a ballista to achieve the required tension.

Is it just me? I sit down on Sunday night just to enjoy the show? I dont need to calculating the rope tension required to pierce (fictional) Dragonhide? Am I alone on this? Do my Sunday nights not involve enough Physics?

That actually seemed weird to me, that a Dothraki would just kill a horse like that. Thought their way of life would place more value on horses than that.

Yeah, they don't clearly show who saved Jaime but right after the ballista gets torched Bronn is on the ground and looks up to see a white horse without a rider. The horse ridden by the one who saved Jaime looked the same.

Maybe they are setting the crossbows up like a nuclear weapon, now Danny knows they have a that kind of weapon and it is an actual threat to her dragons. Just the idea that the other side has this weapon to use might be enough of a deterrence for her to use her super weapons as well for risk of losing them.

Which means the next fight might just be a good old fashioned soldiers versus soldiers battle.

Or maybe shes just going to have to adapt her tactics.

How did Bron hit the Dragon? Well Dany flew the Dragon straight at the damned thing.

It can't be that new. I took that line from Joffrey as that specific style of crossbow was new. The guy from the nights watch that was escorting Gendry, Hot Pie, Arya, etc to the wall in the second season said he never liked crossbows as they took to long to reload.

You're right I think Joffrey was referring to a specific type of crossbow that didn't take as long to reload or something like that. Either way I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that they didn't have the capabilities of building those giant crossbows 300 years ago. Or maybe they just didn't think to build them until after Aegon had already conquered the seven kingdoms. Maybe they found that thing down there from a previous war with dragons, just not Aegon's conquest.

Doesn't seem inappropriate to me either. We haven't seen evidence of the technology anywhere else in their world and not all possible inventions should be expected to exist. They lost how to make Valyrian steel too. It's not like they can just google that stuff.

What are you talking about? Sam is the newest intern at Google's Westeros Campus.

Granted, much like the Night's Watch dont tell you about all the shoveling the Westeros Google Campus never tells you about all the bedpan work.

You have to read the fine print.

I think it sets up more dragons vs Euron. If King's Landing can't be attacked by dragons then sticking to the siege idea is the way to go, but they don't have the means to prevent Euron supplying the city unless the dragons get involved.

Lots of big questions left open by that episode. Did Jaime die? Did Jon agree to bend the knee in that cave? What does Cersei want back that was hers? How does Littlefinger respond when under threat from Bran and Arya?

In the Inside the Episode video that was posted, David Benioff specifically says it's Drogon who was wounded.

Strange. Did not look like the same dragon.

The night's watch used ballistas when the wildlings attacked with the giants.

I wonder why they transported the gold to Kings Landing. How is it going to get to the Iron Bank, by another caravan vulnerable to attack?

Boat. Kingslanding and oddly enough Dragonstone are relatively close to each other on the same coast line.
