Habs re-sign Monahan (1 yr, $1.985 mil)
https://www.nhl.com/canadiens/news/o...20-SeanMonahan
Quote:
MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Tuesday that the team has agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.985 million contract extension (2023-24) with forward Sean Monahan.
Monahan, 28, scored six goals and added 11 assists in 25 contests with the Canadiens in 2022-23 before suffering a season-ending lower-body injury on December 5 in Vancouver.
Since the beginning of his career, the Brampton, ON native has tallied 479 points (218 goals, 261 assists) in 681 games with the Canadiens and the Calgary Flames, who drafted him sixth overall in 2013.
The 6-foot-2, 196-pound centerman was acquired from the Flames in a trade on August 18, 2022.

Good deal for both sides. The guy really needs to stay healthy for once.

If he stays healthy and gets 0.35 to 0.5 PPG, that's a steal for Montreal. Wish him all the best.

Good for Mony, I hope he puts together a healthy season and earns himself another big contract.

Here’s to hoping that this is the beginning of a renaissance for him
Good player and seems like a good fellow who’s had rotten luck with injuries

You're not going to find too many Flames fans who are not happy for Monahan!

I had Monahan on a list of free agents I wanted the Flames to approach if they moved Lindholm, Backlund or maybe Kadri and not bringing a center back.

Yep.
...but to be fair, none of us knew the extent to which he was playing hurt for the last few years here.
Still makes me mad that our support staff couldn't figure out something was wrong and that he shouldn't be playing.

Well, a lot of it was reported, every year. And even afterwards, for example in his last year here, he was being called useless and garbage (man do I hate that particular one).

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
And those who had a clue he was hurt were chastised. I remember how bad his wrists were and he could barely shoot the puck. When he did manage to get a goal off from the slot there would be cries of "see, how hurt can he be?"
I wish him well, but if this season takes a turn like the others hopefully he can shut it down and move on. Still a young man.

No idea if and how much he can recover from injuries, but its interesting to see those drafted the same year. He should be in his prime. Mackinnon, Barkov, Horvat, Weegar, Pesce, Zadorov, Guentzel, etc.
Sidenote: other than Monahan, 2013 had some serious swinging and missing by the scouts. klimchuk, poirer, kanzig, etc.

Yup. People couldn’t figure out that he often looked better early in games versus weakening as it went on for a reason. Painkillers and freezing spray wear off.
This is sure a risk free signing for Montreal.

Awesome. So glad to see him get one more chance to show what he can do when healthy. He was really good for them early in the year, until he Monahanned it up by getting injured again.
I'm really pulling for him. I hope he has a monster year and stays healthy for once.

I actually expected him to sign closer to $1MM.
I expect this means Montreal thinks there is a better chance he can stay healthy.
At least I hope so.
