I mean he's not really going out on a limb here. If Duclair comes cheap, sure, but he certainly shouldn't (or can't) be the main piece in a Hanifin deal.
Just 6 goals and 20 points in 40 games this year without Huberdeau, and no proven track record of production elsewhere.

Any deal involving trading Hanifin for Duclair is like that story about the guy using a paperclip and eventually trading up for an RV or something like that.
But the opposite.

If Duclair is the centrepiece in any Hanifin deal, I don't even know what to say. Baffling beyond words.
As a return for Zadorov, sure. But I think we know how trading for a pending UFA is going to end.

As a throw in to help out with cap issues sure, but as a piece that brings value no thanks.
And it is rumours like this that has me holding my breath and waiting to be excited about the potential moves we could be making. It should be clear but even with having many guys wanting to go setting us up for a rebuild we could still screw it up.

There is another angle which is:
"We need Huberdeau to put up 90-100 points so he has value in a trade"
I actually don't see a fit for Hanifin with the Panthers...outside of Lundell they don't have the pieces. No real top prospects and no 1st round picks for a while.
But with Gudas as a UFA they probably look for his replacement, and Zadorov would really fit that bill.

If I'm the Flames I ask for Duclair and Luostarinen for Hanifin. Florida doesn't have a lot of picks to offer, but Luostarinen is sneaky good defensively and is just coming into his own and just had a season of 0.5 PPG. Would instantly replace Backlund's spot on the roster but is 10 years younger (24). Duclair adds the speed and skill element necessary to supplement Huberdeau's skillset. Duclair is still only 27
Both are current roster players, but 27 and under. It would be nice to be competitive with this move, and get futures for the other guys.
