Treliving does Jagr press conference. Most quotes are about Jankowski.

Just wondering the context of this? I'm not watching/listening so just wondering how this came up?
Either way I'm happy about the answer!!

Gulutzan confirmed that he is going to play Jagr on the line with Bennett and Versteeg + power play.

Friggin awesome. Wish it came together a few days earlier so he could play tonight.
But I'll settle for a couple games in, so long as this legend is playing for the good guys.

Interesting that Gulutzan specifically mentioned Versteeg and Bennett as benefiting from playing on Jagr's line. Not that he needed one, not that he doesn't know his job is on the line but a huge wake up call to Troy Brouwer. Figured Glen would tip toe around it until Jagr was ready to play.

Doubt GG is worried about hurting Brouwer's feelings at this point!

Tre was asked to kind of a recap as to how the Flames got to the point of signing Jagr. said the only player who stood out was Jankowski and the rest I posted. Felt they needed more than what the kids they thought would push for a spot gave. Jagr fit the bill.

This.
He is one of the 5 best payers to EVER play in the NHL, and he is still so self aware and humble about it.
I was lukewarm to this when it first started gathering steam but was always OK with what he brought off the ice, and what the young guys can truly learn by seeing how he handles himself.
Now I am convinced he can tangibly make a difference on the ice.
This is such a win for the Flames and their fans.

Jagr said almost exactly this in that translated interview.

It is nice that Jagr says McDavid is a great player and there is no need to hate your rivals, but I am sure by end of this season E=NG will be clear to him. Frolik, Backlund and Gio will see to that! Can't wait to see him play.

Actually I thought I heard him say "if they are not my teammates I hate them" - but he still respects McDavid as a great player.

If true, great! I need to tune my ears to this Czech accent. I will go back and listen again when the clip is posted.

I feel kinda bad in a way though that he feels he's being pushed out of the league to the point that he thinks this is his last contract. Why the heck can't he go on a bit longer if he puts up good numbers this year? He's got overflowing skill still. "I said it before I want to play til 50" so he clearly still feels good too. Man I hope he has a great year and either we or someone else gives him another year.
|
If he plays this season and next and averages 18 goals and 43 points he would end up 2nd overall in career goals and finish his career with 2,000 points.
He's already 2nd overall in points, 1st overall in GWG's and OT goals, and he should become 1st overall in games played this season as a Flame.
Would be cool to reach those other milestones given how close he is and considering he would have easily reached them if he played his entire career in the NHL.
No matter it is an awesome day as a Flames/Jagr fan!

One potential added bonus is, when anyone ever tries to goon it up or slash Jagr or whatever ala McDavid, the refs should call any and everything close, mainly because of the respect of Jagr...
Kind of the Wideman effect in reverse.
