I really wish we had a development infrastructure so he could develop into the next Saros or Tim Thomas

Trying to hold out hope that the Flames will one day actually be able to develop a drafted goaltender but Wolf has a lot of external factors working against him including the tutelage of Jordan Sigalet.

You want him to follow Tim Thomas' career development path?

A bit premature to suggest Wolf won’t turn into a comparable goalie, no? Unless of course you spoken with and understand Labarbara’s approach to developing goalies.

Seems like a petty and uninformed perspective to offer up.

Jordan Sigalet oversees the Goalie Department, he is no longer the actual goalie coach....Jason LaBarbera is.

That still may be what Erick meant.

Will be interested to see what he does in the AHL. There's a big jump from junior to the pros and the Flames are a graveyard for goaltender prospects. Hopefully he turns into the starter this team needs in the next two or three years. It would be nice to see someone break the chain.

Just another feather in this guy's cap. Congrats.

I for one think this guy is the real deal. Flames just have to hit it right 9n the next couple of steps.

His showing in the AHL this past year was pretty promising.

He got shelled in his first game (0.545), but then put up two very strong games at 0.947 and 0.963.

I am hopeful.

Same here. We have to catch a break in goal at some point. Might as well be a 7th rounder.

I get were supposed to temper expectations for goalies, and it's a wild crap shoot. But Wolf has literally developed exactly what you would want from a goalie prospect, no? Back to back top WHL goalie awards. What more does the guy need to do at that level to be a 'lock' when it comes to prospects?

It's getting hard to temper expectations with him. He's done literally everything you'd want from a player in his position. But that damn goalie curse still exists in the Flames' organization.

Hoping and praying he's the guy to break it.

Like I've said before, pretty much every elite goalie in the NHL played in the NHL by the age of 21.

Wolf should get his cup of tea soon. Especially with the lack of depth the Flames have in net.

Yeah I know that. I would feel better about Wolf's prospects if Sigalet was not with the organization in any capacity.

is this a thread about Wolf's accomplishment, or just another bitch-about-the-organization thread?

Agreed. Let's get the Anti-Midas of goalies out of here.

Would be nice if the Flames could snag Ian Clark from the Canucks. Seems to have a pretty good track record with goalie development plus his history with Markstrom.

I believe his contract with Vancouver is set to expire (at the end of the month?) and he hasn't signed an extension yet.

Has everyone forgotten David Rittich? Do the Flames get no credit for his development? Sure, he's no a legitimate No.1, at least not at the moment (goalies and all...), but I don't think it's a stretch to say he is a decent 1B.The Flames found him, signed him, developed him and got good use out of him and eventually turned him into a 3rd round pick on an expiring contract. Not bad.

Outside of that I would say that the Flames have been a bit unlucky having several of their higher profile prospects had their development derailed by injury, thinking of Gillies and Parsons specifically. Hard to blame Sigalet on injuries, isn't it? I am sure the league is littered with goalie prospects that didn't turn out for one reason or another. This is not a problem isolated to the Flames.

As far as becoming a starter in 2-3 years, that would be on the optimistic side. If he isn't a starter until he is 25-ish, that would be where the reasonable expectation should be. I would be happy to be surprised though.

Only CP could turn a prospect winning a major award into a negative
