guess he didn't like the little cross check to the back, the hook into the hands, and then the punch into the back of the head...
No excuse for swinging the stick like that...but it's stuff like that...wish the refs would call stuff so it doesn't escalate and players feel they have to retaliate/police themselves.

Because of his skill, people forget what a goon Malkin is. Not acceptable: hope he gets suspended until after the next Flyers-Pens match for added justice.
Not trying to defend Malkin. I could care less either way!
Yet the guy takes a nasty crosscheck, a slash, then a punch. He does swing his stick carelessly. Yet two penalties should have been called prior to Malkin losing his cool.
If I have a hockey stick in my hand and you punch me in the back of the head I can gaurantee you I will swing that stick trying to take you down. If that does not work my gloves will be dropped and I will be trying to assist in knocking out all your teeth.
I actually thought Malkin under reacted to this. I bet that cross check hurt like hell. Punch to the back of the head probably felt great too.
Note: both of those plays should of been called as a penalty but were not.

I'm not excusing this action, but let's not mischaracterize Malkin as a "goon" please.
Also, what does that make Raffl? In that exchange I saw a potentially damaging crosscheck to the low back and then a punch to the back of the head. Just because it's a common action in hockey doesn't make any of that stuff okay.

Malkin should get a stern talking to...that's it, no suspension, no fine.
The flyer player should get a warning for diving
The red should get suspended 3 games without pay

No excuse for the stick swinging, but I agree. Raffl should have got 8 minutes on this play: 2 (crosscheck), 2 (hold), 4 (intentional head shot). I know the NHL does not have head shot penalties - I think it's time they brought them in.
I’m just looking forward to the incident video from the NHL that shows the uncalled crosscheck and punch to the head in slow motion, multi-angle format.
In fact, as I picture this video in my head, I’m wondering if they don’t just give him a fine to avoid having to post it at all.
Malkin deserves a hearing for sure. But at some point, you have to look at WHY these things are happening. You can't say Malkin was going around swinging his stick and that's that. There's a reason he did it.
I don't expect the league to make the right call on this at all. They tend to look at the single action that occurred. Not the build up to it or why it even happened in the first place.
Maybe if a ref had called a damn penalty, the stick swinging likely would have never occurred. Typical band-aid solution, and not getting to the root of the action.
