These are screws that Treliving can turn.

I think the quality of the flames team right now would lessen any worry for him if it came to a holdout.
He'd know that the team is good enough to hold the fort until he signed.
he wouldn't have to worry about his absence putting the team in a hole.

I have no idea what he's like. if he's a "just want a chance to win" type of guy or a "I know this is a business and I have to look out for myself" kind of guy.

Sure, they all do.
But does he sign it? Doubtful.
And the Flames match whatever it is regardless.
He may use it for valuation at best.
So who cares?

The owner is not willing to pay up for Stone or Duchene as of yet, but he is willing to pay $10mill+ to offer sheet Tkachuk. It would ruin their supposed rebuild. If I was the Flames I would let them have him and take the draft picks. They would most likely be very high.

If that tire fire offers you 4 1st's for Tkachuk you take it and laugh all the way to the draft

Hardly a misstep. Brad would have signed him if he could. Why would the player sign last year? There was no logical reason for him to do so.

If Tkachuk's agent was doing his job, which he clearly is, then he waits until this summer.

Don’t the Avs have this years pick? Or do they have 2020s as well?

I'd give up that for him, but at those numbers, the flames would match in a heartbeat.

so what team has the assets to give up two firsts, a second, and a third, plus take on a $10 million contract?

He just said yesterday they want to be a cap team after two years. Going after a young star forward doesn’t seem that crazy.

But I agree, I’d take the picks if the offer sheet was high enough.

Right, compensation would be as of next year's draft.

D'oh.

Im not convinced that is the case at this point as i think its far more about the players buying into and sticking around for the rebuild vs just dollars. Its why Melnyk went full public on their "plans" last night at the STH thing. Desperation has settled in there.

As for MT, he bridges at 6.5 for 3 or goes 9+ for 6 is my guess.

Sens are probably the least threatening team in terms of offer sheets. Remember the player has to actually want to sign it. Also their draft picks are probably going to be lottery picks even if they add a good young player.

A scary team would be St Louis since they aren’t as bad of a team and Tkachuk may actually prefer playing there.

I see this going well into the season. Having Johnny, Mony, Lindholm as a top line, then Backlund and guys like Neal and Bennett mean that the team can likely float for a while without him. And his dad’s history. These comments don’t exactly add more information in my mind.

I wonder how his position on the second line plays into it. Facing more difficult competition, worse zone starts, and worse linemates. The only real drawback is the ‘Backlund effect’ but that’s tough to use as hard leverage in negotiations.

So at the trade deadline you'd be ok to trade Chucky for a 1st/2nd/3rd?

Tkachuk saying what he has to, and what he should say.

Also seemed a little uncomfortable with the topic - but nothing really game changing was said at all.
