Location: A simple man leading a complicated life....
Exp:
Watched "Das Boot" last night. I thought it was one of the best movies that did a great job of showing the life of crew members inside a U boat during WW11. All I could think about was the smell of diesel and body odor wafting through the Sub. Or the claustrophobia of being in a small space and feeling the depth charges exploding around you.
I know Florida is a hell of a Drug, but being months late on Tiger King and now a solid 19 Years late on Fast & Furious....
Did you just step out of Time Capsule or isolated Armageddon Bomb Shelter?
Honestly, I just always thought they were a complete waste of time and I never even gave them a consideration of watching them. I guess I just wanted to say I was wrong and they are a lot of fun, even if they are dumb movies.
If you asked me to watch them at any other time than a global pandemic, I'd give them a pass. What does that say? No idea...

I'm more curious as to why he started with 5. Is it like watching the Star Wars movies now? Do they make more sense out of order?
They don't make sense at any point.
No, it's because the way they were talking about the films in the podcast, it sounded like they didn't really find their form until Fast 5, for whatever reason. I just figured I'd start there for that reason.

Strange Brew - I second Freaks. Best to go into it blind.
On Star Wars... think of it this way... I'm not a fan of Harry Potter. I think that it's derivative, and cliched, and doesn't make a lot of sense. Kathleen Kennedy did the equivalent of hiring me to write and direct the second to last Harry Potter film. And no matter how good Rian Johnson is otherwise, he deserves to be repeatedly slapped in the face for not recusing himself from making a movie in a franchise that he holds in contempt.
And I'll go ahead and say that JJ Abrams is an underaverage director. And a poor writer. He gets too much credit for writing 17 out of 84 episodes of Felicity, 13 out of 105 episodes of Alias, and 3 out of 118 episodes of Lost. He is not good. I don't understand why he was given the reins to Star Trek and Star Wars.

The Perfection. It's a seriously messed up movie that's definitely not going to be for everyone, but those who like it will probably enjoy it a lot. If you kind of enjoy watching some pretty sick stuff happening on screen, you're probably not going to regret watching this one.
So, would recommend with extreme caveats.
Strenghts:
- Really excellent performances by the main actors (Allison Williams and Logan Browning) and there really no weak performances in the movie.
- Looks very good visually.
- It feels fairly original. Mostly this is IMO due to it combining such unusual elements. Serious body horror scenes generally don't happen in this style.
- The script is clever in the good sense of the word. There's attention to detail you often don't see in movies. Outside of a couple of things in the very end, everything has an explanation that somewhat makes sense, at least within the movies own twisted logic.
- It's memorable and unique.
Had a pretty good trailer that didn't tell too much. There's body horror in it. Don't watch if you're not into that.
NSFW!
Weaknesses:
- The movie blends together (a certain style of) realism and some really messed up horror stuff, and the effect is so jarring it's likely going to take you right out of the movie every time you get into the latter stuff. It's what makes the movie memorable, but it's pretty WTF when you're watching it.
- I would imagine most people are just not going to buy into what happens in the latter half of the movie. It's still entertaining enough to watch, but it stretches believability quite far and just doesn't work as well as the first half.

The Platform. Wow, if you like horror with a twist this is really a good movie. Spanish with subs or English voice over. Doesn't matter, this film will drop you right into it!
As with the review on perfection above, this one really takes you into the depths.

Agreed. What I don't get throughout the movie is how the public acts in almost every scene. With the opening heist, somehow there's noone around when this enormous accident happens, then when the police show up there are people around?
Then the very end, the crowd is running around in a panic for a fire alarm? When have you ever seen that in real life? It plays into the movie though, so I found that distracting. Personally, I preferred The Usual Suspects from the same era.

As Tom Jones would say “It’s not Unusual”.

He should have, but the movie did a very good job investing in the fact he couldn't. McCauley couldn't let it go, it was the right call for him to go aftger Weingro, as far as the plot and the arc of his character goes.
The final sequence and the score was ####ing movie perfection.
