there were actually 5 other mass shootings in the last week, in addition to Boulder and Atlanta. Not as much news, since thankfully, most victims did not die.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/23/us/7-...rnd/index.html

I live in metro St. Louis which has the highest homicide per 100000 population in the US for the last 6 years. 217 people killed by a bullet last year in STL. I don't even blink an eye to this news as it is more rare to turn on the news and not hear of a murder.

That was a great part of COVID and forced social distancing. No mass shootings.

So sad.

Except that wasn't the case. There were 615 mass shooting incidents (defined as four or more victims) in the US in 2020, with 521 dead and 2,541 wounded. The mass shootings never stopped.

It’s probably useful to distinguish between gangs spraying bullets at one another in turf wars and incidents where lone gunmen go to a mall or school with the intent of killing as many strangers as possible. They’re both bad things, but they’re very different.

This is true.

I was surprised to hear this as my impression was there were less mass shootings in the US. Too much noise from the last 4 years I guess.

The last 2 years of the Dumptser administration there was fairly large rise in mass shootings each year (especially 2020). I checked several sources and they all showed an increase.

I certainly blame the former guy for more shootings but what portion was due to Covid? Would be interesting to see data from other countries.

Hate to bump this thread. Former NFL player yet too.

"Former NFL player Phillip Adams fatally shot five people including a prominent doctor, his wife and their two grandchildren before later killing himself, authorities said Thursday."

If they do an autopsy, they're gonna find he had CTE.

I assume that you would have to as part of a murder/mass shooting?

Here's another
Not much known yet but law enforcement officials said there was a "mass casualty situation" at the FedEx facility in Indianapolis.

Edit: Sounds like at least 8 people dead and many more shot

The article says "deadliest shooting since March 22". Imagine that being incredible enough to state. Well, the March 22nd shooting was the front runner for not even a month before this FedEx one took the reins.

Fantastic work you're doing down there, America.

Police said the alleged shooter "has taken his own life."

We know this going to be said through out the day from US politicians and it rings hollow. "Thoughts and prayers."

None of these shootings surprise me anymore. Again, if shooting 6 year olds at Sandy Hook changed nothing, there is nothing that can force change.

US shootings that surprised me

1. Columbine
2. Sandy Hook
3. Las Vegas

Everything else (even the big ones like Orlando) almost seemed inevitable.

Is it bad that it's such a common occurrence now that, unless it's a particularly unique mass shooting, it doesn't really register much to me anymore? Americans have had, and continue to have, many many chances to amend gun laws and curb some of this, yet they refuse to do so (and I get there are Americans that want change, I'm just stating America the country as a whole, with all their useless wannabe military rejects and grandstanding politicians that trot out the stupid "guns don't kill people, people kill people" argument).
