Eichel is worth way more than Johnny. He might not be worth quite as much as Matthews or McDavid but he's a lot closer in value to those guys than he is to Johnny.
Zero chance Buffalo would trade him without getting a centre back IMO. Deal would have to be centered around Bennett or Monahan.

Easily trade Gaudreau + any prospect + 1st for Eichel.
Bennett - Eichel - Ferland
Tkachuk - Monahan -
- Backlund - Frolik
That first line would be incredibly fast and assertive, with no lack of skill.

Except it's not that easy. No way Buffalo takes that deal as they consider Eichel a franchise player. He's a much better player than any of the top prospects in the 2017 draft and probably in a dead heat with Matthews (I think Eichel will be a better 200 foot player than Matthews) as the best young player in the league outside of McDavid. I don't think there's any sum or players or prospects the Flames could offer that Buffalo would entertain.

I agree; Gaudreau, + 1st + prospect. Never Monahan.

I mean Buffalo would probably want a center back, Bennett isn't proven enough, and Backlund is past that age range.
It'd probably have to be Monahan+++ for Eichel, and honestly, we'd have to do it. Eichel has top 3 centre in the world potential. He is a massive upgrade over Monahan, and we finally get our DOMINANT #1c that can compare with the Matthews' and the McDavid's of the world

Until someone proves they're a franchise center, they're still a young Center who is bad defensively and gets points.
Eichel is a hell of a player, but his defensive game is not good. Maybe that'll change, maybe it won't. If it doesn't, then he's closer to a Seguin than he is a franchise center.

Jack speaks:
http://buffalonews.com/2017/04/19/sa...ption-stories/
"Like I said, I would have liked to have handled my end-of-the-year meeting a little differently, my exit press conference with you guys, but it is what it is. Just hearing these things that people are writing after I have a meeting with Tim and a meeting with Dan, I thought both of them went well. None of anything that I’ve read so far has been accurate of what was said in those meetings with them. It’s a bit frustrating and a bit disheartening because I thought things were heading in the right direction leaving Buffalo. As much as we didn’t have a great year, you’ve got to just look forward to the future. Speaking to Tim and speaking to the Pegulas, just expecting big things for next year. It’s just frustrating to still be dealing with this more than anything."

Confusing. Obviously if a rumour comes out, he will deny it, however it seems silly that he wouldn't re-sign blatantly just because of a coach. Jack Eichel may have just fired Dan Bylsma.

I don't think you should ever give any player this much power. His attitude would scare me off.
Also, I wouldn't trade Gaudreau for anyone.

While the information that came out about not re-signing might not be true, from reading Eichel's response, he seems to have fired a few shots over the bow and made himself heard.

Eichel is still pissed that he lost $2-million bonus because of Draisaitl.

Wow, there is a decent list of guys I would trade Gaudreau for.
Crosby
Ovechkin
Matthews
McDavid
Laine
Eichel
Benn
Seguin
Werenski
Provorov
Josi
Price
Holtby
There's 13 for 13 just off the top of my head.

Eichel was .005 away from being top 10 in the league in PPG which would have earned him a $2 million dollar bonus.
Draisatl passed him in the final game.

The thing about Eichel is he has Gaudreau's puck skills, hands, speed and offensive IQ, combined with Monahan's frame and shot. Unbelievable player.

Eichel had a 2 M bonus if he finished in top 10 in PPG. On the last day of the season Draisaitl got 2 points and Eichel fell to 11th in PPG.

It's a situation where coaches do well to last 5 years, star players are around for 15 plus. Buffalo doesn't even consider an Eichel trade. If there is friction it will be Bylsma who goes.

Eichel is great and all, but we need an elite #1 RW more than we need another elite #1 C. (Ferland is NOT an elite #1 RW.)
Right now, we have:
[Gaudreau] [Monahan] [_]
[Tkachuk] [Backlund] [Frolik]
[_] [Bennett] [_]
And people want:
[_] [Eichel] [_]
[Tkachuk] [Monahan] [Frolik]
[_] [Backlund] [_]
[_] [Bennett] [_]
That makes no sense to me at all. We need to fill the holes we have, not create more holes we don't have. What we actually need more than anything else is an in-his-prime Iginla. (Which is absolutely mind-bottling.)
Edit: Actually, we need an elite #1 G more than anything else, but we absolutely also need a 40-goal wrecking ball in the #1 RW spot.
Edit: Have we seen Tkachuk in the #1 RW spot with Johnny and Monny yet? I can't remember it, if we have...
