Comeptetive Eating
Seems like a cool sport I would like to get into.
But anyways, a month or so ago I was in NYC and went to Coney island, and had one of the famous Nathans hot dogs. It actually was not that big of a deal.
But, the Hotdog eating contest there is a big deal and just happened.
Joey Chestnut, the reigning champ, beat his old record by eating 74 hotdogs in 10 minutes.
Check out the nutritional amounts of that little lunch

Competitive eating IMO seems like the complete opposite of a 'sport'.
But still fun to watch.

Which US network had it televised for a while?
I have a memory of one of the events being butter eating, just big bricks of butter.
Edit: ah Fox of course it was you.......

Does it annoy anyone else that it says he ate 54 KG of sodium? Those must be some heavy hot dogs.

I would expect that the competitors could become spokespeople for Exlax and Super Colon Blow.
Now there's a contest. Feed these guys Ex lax tablets and the winner is the guy who poops last.

I forgot about that skit, Japanese game shows are weird.
We need them here.

You would have to be gifted with a stomach that could expand enough to contain all that food and have no gag reflex. Have they ever stated if they keep the food down after or vomit it back up? I have to imagine the next 24-48 hours have to be very uncomfortable.

From what I've read that's an accurate description.

even the thought of eating one hotdog bun soaked in water is disgusting, let alone doing that with 74.

Epic meal time is pretty insane. Although I assume they just throw away most of their creations.

Every now and then I'll watch a competitive eating YouTuber like L.A. Beast, Matt Stonie or Furious Pete. I find it pretty fascinating what those guys are able to consume.

Ok devil's advocate here. It sounds bizarre but I would argue that the best competitive eaters are indeed athletes. The top in the field are not some giant overweight slobs, they are usually in pretty good shape. I don't really follow it but one of the best I've seen, Kobayashi, is a toothpick. They "train" on a regular basis, I know it's weird but is there a difference in someone who has complete control over their stomach and throat muscles and someone who arm wrestles? what about Nascar?
I'm not saying it's olympic worthy but they are as much or more athletes than people who play darts or chess IMO.
