Yup but this is an unusual situation where the player was drafted in the first and not signed before the draft. so all you did really was be the first person to rush to their keyboard during the draft. Intent of the supplemental is to help asset poor teams.
By mere minutes I would add (you didn't beat me, you beat a different team).
Was just a thought. Would like input on it.

I was going to send an email, but assumed he would be in the supplemental draft.

I think we should allow him to be picked in the supplemental draft.
Doesn't even benefit me, Carolina probably gets him.

If a team with less assets got him (ie a team in the Supplemental Draft), would it be questioned?
I guess this is more a question of consistency and objectivity versus subjectivity.
I watched the draft and yes, may have typed faster than the other person...but I still had to put in the effort to watch the draft and go search the CPHL for him.
I've followed the rules as laid out.
All that being said, is there a precedent for anything like this that the CPHL can lean on?

Not really.
We've had cases of over agers signed and then drafted in the NHL first, but the players were always signed well in advance of the draft. We've had overagers signed after the draft, and some have also squeaked through into the supplemental draft.
So no real precedent.
I was actually typing a post to suggest he goes into the supplemental to get ahead of it, when your post went up.
I signed a guy after our draft, who appeared on Bob's list. I don't know where he will go tomorrow, but if it helps I'll toss him back in the pool too, as long as I don't have to take the buyout for him. Because I wouldn't buy him out except to allow him to be taken in the supplemental.
Again open to other input.

Maybe we should consider doing a Supplemental Draft for College FA that sign in the NHL as well then, if the objective is to get more assets to the lower teams.
I'm just trying to help my team so I can make upgrades to win, and doing that by following the rules.
I also completely get wanting to have a balanced group of assets, because the game is a lot more fun when more teams have more assets. There are more options to make a deal.
And I know my CPHL squad is stacked...I understand. I'm also very thin on prospects so this might help me compete with SJS and EDM.
So maybe for a year we consider doing something like the college FA supplemental draft as well so I know what I can/can't do.

I think college FAs and European FAs are a little different as typically most are signed well in advance of any NHL action. For instance I signed Mackey beginning of last year, months ahead of him being signed by the Flames. What we don't want to do is remove those elements of the game where people invest time and should be rewarded. I think what we do want to remove is the "race to the keyboard" that a first come first serve model creates in some limited cases. Those though could be easily solved though with a couple of rule tweaks
- If a NHL team signs a college or European free agent, that is not property of a CPHL club, that player goes up for bidding using standard free agency rules and processes
- If a NHL team drafts an overager, that was not drafted in the CPHL draft or not previously signed by a CPHL team, that player will be made available in the supplemental draft.
Pretty easy solves I think

I think that's fair.
