I have one ride looged into the CP Strava club......I leave my hosue in New Brighton and dodge random gunfire, decomposing carcasses and tons of broken glass and hook up with McKenzie Towne Blvd and then:
  • ride over Deerfoot
  • a right turn at the Esso station
  • first left and hook up with the pathway
  • stay on pathway to carburn park
  • cross over the river at the foot of southland and stay on southland
  • go thru intersection of blackfoot
  • pop into Acadia and work my way to Fairmont and heritage
  • stay on Fairmont and turn left near chinnok station
  • work my way thru semi industrial area to building
very close to 17k each way - 40 to 55 minutes depending on wind and traffic conditions.

worst part of ride is southland to blackfoot as I ride on the road, second worst part is navigating traffic circle in McKenzie - I have found it si quickest to ride on road as well

Do you actually go in the traffic circle or just through the crosswalks?

^ I used to do the cross walks; however, I found it slow going and a bit of a PITA - so I now just stay on the road and ride thru.

I try to take up a good portion of lane so I am very obvious - my wife will pass me at times when she is going to work and the whole process makes her think about how she would spend the insurance money when I get hit.

Had only 45 minutes at West Bragg so I rode Bragging rights and long distance.
It is dry out there. Already starting to get really dusty.

North side is riding like late June right now. Unreal. South still has a few mud bogs - took a pretty good tumble on Ranger on Saturday. Touch too much entry speed into a turn, hit some rutted semi-firm mud at exit. Bike went sideways while I kept going forward.

How's that tail/head wind tonight? Glad I got my ride in earlier.

I rode into the wind the whole way home. Surprised that it only added about 13 extra minutes to my ride home.

Twice a cross wind almost blew me over.

Yup, for all my grumbling about how much it was going to suck it only added about two minutes to my commute home. It sure feels like the Nose Creek valley just funnels that wind though, once I turned westbound at the Bow it was noticeably easier.

lol - when I live up on Patterson hiil I always found the ride home tough as it always seemed that I was riding into a headwind, plus there was all of the uphill to contend with and then when you are riding along the river, you can see you are riding into the current - it just seemed like all the elements were against me

I went and rode Merlins View out in West Bragg Creek, It was my first time in Bragg Creek and what a fun trail! I think I might go do it again tomorrow.

Wondering if anyone can please refer me to a bike shop that deals with BMX racing equipment and gears? My little son has expressed joining a club for BMX racing (Calgary BMX Racing). We are new to the sport and would like to get some insights, tips and help in general. Thanks in advance.

after riding 5 days in a row - I took today off....when I saw that it was already 10c at 6 am, I went into a shame spiral which ended after about 2 hours of self loathing......I'll really hate myself as I fight for space on the roads tonight on the way home......

I've been steady on my riding commute now since April 11th. Should be a long season too!

Had the rare double tailwind day yesterday (well, a bit of a cross on the way home). Love those, they usually only happen in spring.

They used to be a relatively big brand in the 80's and 90's. I remember wanting them, Norco, or Kuwahara (BMX) bikes as a kid.

Not sure what happened to them or Kuwahara though. Are they still around? I don't see their bikes in shops anymore.

Norco is still going strong.

Raliegh's always been a poor choice for anything short of a townie style bike.

so, I started out my own bike repair business this year. It's been pretty good. One thing I've noticed, is that 80% of the bikes I'm getting in all need new chains. This surprised me, since I always checked my chain and replaced when it was time. This extends the life of the more expense parts, like the cassette and chainrings. What surprised me was that it was all high end bikes. People I know. So, having said that, buy a chain checker. I know you can measure your chain with a ruler, but if you have the tool, you will use it.
