It’s adidas. And it’s money. If the jersey sucks I would expect adidas to demand a mulligan.
Honestly, the flames, nhl, and adidas should want as many flames merchandise items sold as possible. So, why not bring out a different third every season? Footie has no qualms about issuing 3 brand new uniforms every season, plus practice gear and leisure wear. So it can be done. Some teams even offer a 4th and even pure retros that are not intended to be worn in a match. Isn’t choice what we really want?

Yes, but the team didn't really embrace the red branding until the 2004 playoffs. That year was the rebirth of the C of Red, Red Mile etc. Now it's part of the team identity. No way they change that up.
90% chance this is the retro
9% chance it's something else that's red
1% chance it's black, blue, yellow, rainbow flag or maple leaf tartan
I am also convinced that we get a hanger effect with the words "we are the C of Red" or something along those lines.
Edit: Not enough Sam Bennet discussion in this thread. What do you guys think? Is this the year he breaks out?

I loved the horse head, id have no issue if they brought it back. Hell I don't even care if its a new design entirely, so long as it isn't that ugly wordmark garbage. that one sucked.

Just re-release the current jersey as the third jersey. But also point out that the current jersey, which is actually the third jersey which has been around now forever is therefore also going to referred to as the retro jersey. Then tell the fans that the current retro third jersey is therefore going to be the new primary jersey and the newly released third jersey which is actually the same as the primary will be worn on 4 special occasions as well as on retro night.
