The smart thing for the Cowboys is to look at who they feel is going to be part of next year’s team and try to move anyone who doesn’t look like long term solutions (ie Zeke, Tony Pollard, some DL, and some DBs) and try to get some draft capital to address the glaring weaknesses on OL and WR.
Going out and trading for a QB will be costly in terms of draft picks and will subsequently hurt their chances of addressing their real gaps.
This season is likely lost regardless of who they bring in at QB. The Cowboys were looking to be more competitive next year and the year afterwards as they likely would have more cap space so maybe it’s best to go out and be proactive to make the team better for those years instead of trying to put bandaids on an arterial bleed.

According to ESPN Prescott will be out for 6-8 weeks. Looking at the state of the Cowboys offense last night I tend to agree that the Cowboys may be best served taking their lumps and retooling in the offseason. It seems like the plan was always just to ride this season with McCarthy and save for winning a Super Bowl he was always going to be fired and replaced with Payton. Probably best for Payton to have some high draft picks and the ability to make a lot of roster changes to his liking.

The Cowboys have a pretty easy schedule the next 7 weeks so they should probably make a move to stay in the hunt, particularly considering that division. Also, gotta fill those seats in Jerrys great big stadium.
The only really tough games are against the Rams (and even they looked fairly ordinary on Thursday) and the Bengals. Other than that its the Giants, Commanders, Eagles, Bears and Lions.
They can likely come out of that at .500 or better and then get Dak back.
Question is who do they target if anyone? They may just roll with Cooper Rush, but there are other options. Garropollo, Huntley out of Baltimore, Love out of GB, Teddy Bridgewater....maybe try and lure Ryan Fitzpatrick out of retirement.

Thing is the Cowboys admitted this season was a write off the second they brought McCarthy back. Giving up assets to try and salvage a season you already tacitly admitted you aren't trying to win seems silly. Take your medicine, dump some guys to help the cap and set it up for Payton next year. Although if Payton is asking for any less than $20 million a season he's not doing it right. Should really be $30 million minimum to work for Jerry.

Huntley can play.
Jimmy G might be have his job back by week 3 if Lance doesn’t get it together.

Conditions were a bit tough in Chicago yesterday. I think he gets a freebie there

It’s not just about last night for Lance - the reports all summer haven’t been glowing.

Yeah the 49ers will have difficult internal discussions on how the season should play out. Are they willing to sacrifice a season to let Lance find his way or do they want to make the playoffs and that may require a QB rotation. Lance was always a boom/bust pick so he's going to need a long leash if he's ever going to fulfil his potential.

Yep, though some of those high picks will be going to the Saints for the pleasure of having Payton. He still has 3 years left on his Saints contract following this season, the sooner someone tries to hire him, the more its going to cost in compensation...which is why I'm really hoping the Cowboys (or somebody) tries to get him for 2023. Saints currently don't have a 2023 first round pick, I'm expecting that to change.

Jones is 79. Time is not on his side so if he's smart he better get out his cheque book in the offseason.

Watt will get a second opinion tomorrow, but there seems to be some optimism in Pittsburgh that he might not need surgery after all and could possibly be back after 6 weeks or so. Fingers crossed.

Possibly could be a good thing. GB looked awful. I'm chaulking it up to not being in sync yet, but a couple more weeks like the for GB and they will be fighting for a wildcard
