I don't think he rode one line. That doesn't explain the goalie and defence.

It’s obvious the difference is the 1st line. That line carried the team last year. The new first line has been garbage most of this year

But Sutter doesn’t ride 1 line. He uses guys like Lewis and Lucic much more than any other coach would

Sutter for Trotz.
Would be like when Washington canned Hunter for Barry after he kept benching a star player.

Trotz is great and a guy that seems to get the best out of every individual, or at least a group that is greater than the sum its parts, but without the strange media antics

Pass. Sutter and Trotz employ the same system, you would just be moving deck chairs. We have a skilled group more tailored to playing an uptempo offensive system, find a coach for that.

Any ideas, not from the Ward/Gulutzan bin?

My pick would be Andrew Brunette. Did a great job in Florida, landed as an associate coach in NJ and look how much their offence has turned around this year. Has great familiarity with Huby and Weegs.

Has the Stank washed off of Quenville enough for him to come back?

Hasn't Toffoli completely lived up to expectations? It's not his fault that he's on the first line.

Kadri and Lindholm too. Backlund and Coleman are right on their usual targets if not better. Dube will have a career year for the 5th straight time. Ruzicka has 0.5 PPG and sometimes barely gets on the ice.

The defense has 28 goals which is enough. None of them are minus players except Mackey and DeSimone who hardly play.

The disappointments have been Huberdeau, Mangiapane, the power play (likely as a result of those two), weird defensive breakdowns that didn't seem to happen as frequently last year, and the goaltending.

Forget the 115 points, if Huberdeau was on pace for 90, he'd be at 55 right now. That would be 20 more goals the Flames would have this season in some manner, which would probably be enough to be challenging for the division lead again.

Sure. I’d have no issues with it. That is just my opinion though.

Flames decisions now and into the post season are very predictable: follow the money!

Sutter is not going anywhere. You can put that rumour to rest.

BT has to get the right mix of talent. No way he has another coaching change in him, especially with no commitment from the Flames.

He has picks and players to work with, I doubt he can keep money on any player he moves.

Anything beyond that is fantasy. It’s going to be Coronato, Wolf, picks that get moved for help with term.

IMO there is no offer to extend with the Flames and earning one is probably his best shot at being a GM next year.

So he has no choice but to be active right now.

Call me crazy but I wouldn't hate Boudreau

This isn't the ####show Vancouver was

Yesterday I think was a good snapshot of what this group can be without getting bogged down by the atmosphere Sutter has established in the room, whether intentionally or unintentionally

I think no one was having fun here since about late October, and they just took it into their own hands to push back on the coach
That would be the single dumbest move in the history of the franchise in my opinion. And I've been a fan for 35 plus years.

It would be like trading in a Toyota Tundra for a Ram TRX.

I like Sutter but wouldn’t be sad to see him go. Sounds like there is a lot of tension between the GM and coach. Also the atmosphere of the room seems fragile and damaged and I’m sure they would be open to change. In saying that can’t see any validity to the rumour as Sutter was just given an extension.

Yes, all signs point to BT being the man on the way out.

Correct me if I’m wrong. Wasn’t Treliving’s last extension signed just shortly before his contract was up?

Never mind I think he signed early in the last year of his term. I misremembered.

Well thats just a slight exaggeration

Where is Sutter getting with this new core? Hopefully somewhere soon

If they go back to their low scoring, bad defense ways, how long until people concede that another option might indeed be better than Sutter?

League is changing. He couldn't adjust vs Edmonton and their butter soft river hockey

Unless things change in short order, it might appear his stubborn ways have caught up with him

I'm willing to give it until the deadline to make judgments though. Maybe something snapped into place yesterday

I can't imagine trading Wolf. He's won accolades at every level, and fits nicely to take the reigns naturally here, not be pushed into it.

Would be incredibly shot sighted.... But that would also be very Flames.

It depends on what you get. Right now he is a hot prospect, but as Sutter would say he’s won everywhere except the NHL. With goalie prospects you never know what you’ll get, or how long he’ll take to stick in the NHL.

I think it’s wrong to be 100% trade or don’t trade him. If trading him helps optimize the this roster for a couple years in the Huby/Kadri window, then it would make sense.

They need to upgrade scoring and defence. The only way they get better is trading some blue chip prospects.

Rentals and depth guys are a waste of time that BT doesn’t really have. It won’t be enough IMO. So I hope he does something big.
