I think $7 million Huberdeau may be tradeble. But $10.5 Huberdeau may be not. At least this season.

The question should be would any team trade for him? Any team in the Bedard lottery are rebuilding, why would any of them add a potentially $15M player when they are no where near contending?

I doubt whoever has the pick would do it. 3 years of Bedard on an ELC with RFA control at the end is worth way more than paying McDavid $37.5M to walk to UFA in the same amount of time.

Considering both front offices said afterwards that the deal wasn't being made without Fox, you didn't need to be in the room

With inflation the way it is, this will seem like a bargain in seven years.

Not able to find the source of this every article seems to mention Fox as a throw in at the time.

If huberdeau's play improves next season, I'd look at capitalizing on a team like MTL taking him at 30% retained

I don't think he has 8 years of good hockey in him tbh

Yeah you whittle away your return for Tkachuk. But F it, I'd much rather have cap flexibility for those 8 years than stomach the last few years for maybe 3-4 years of a decent top 6 player

Montreal traded 30 games of Ben Chiarot for a lottery ticket in this draft.

Vancouver traded 30 games of Bo Horvat for a lottery ticket in this draft.

And all I can do is hope the Flames don't trade any of their own draft picks...

“ The Flames knew Fox would never sign with them. Treliving didn’t want to include him in the Hurricanes deal because he wanted to trade Fox in a separate deal and get more for him. But Waddell insisted on Fox being part of the deal because he met the player’s agent, Matt Keator, at the draft and was at least told the Canes would have a chance with Fox.”

Hard to believe that Huberdeau’s contract will ever be a bargain.

And in 7 years, hard to believe that Huberdeau will be at any acceptable level of production.

But it’s obvious that Huberdeau’s lacklustre play this year has allowed so many negative thoughts to creep in.

But I always thought the last years of Huberdeau’s contract would stink, that’s simply the name of the game. Inflation isn’t that great in hockey.

Is this not tampering?

I think Calgary will spend 2 more seasons trying to find the right linemates for Huberdeau before considering moving him elsewhere.

If he still hasn't found the right teammates in two seasons, the only way he's moving elsewhere is if he's bought out.

Almost our entire team is down in production from last year, and half this forum expects Huberdeau to be continuing his 115+ point pace playing for a defensively minded Coach who runs a completely different system then that of Burnette's Panthers who were the highest scoring team last year?

2022 Flames - 6th in Scoring with 291 goals
2023 Flames - 18th in Scoring with 160 goals

Johnny gone - 115 pts
Tkachuk gone - 104 pts
Kadri - down significantly
Mangiapane down significantly - only 28pts so far
Lindholm down - ppg last season
Hanifin down

The guy didn't forget how to play hockey, but its very evident that his play style doesn't fit the Sutter mold in terms of production which is why we see a significant amount of overpassing to teammates who rarely appear to be ready to accept said passes. He's nevery been a line driving "star" and has always relied on his wingers to do the dirty work allowing him room/space to get his elite passes off.

Here's a great article back Jack Han (Maple Leafs hockey Analyst for 2 years & ex-Marlies assistant coach) so not just some "bumb blogger"
https://jhanhky.substack.com/p/whats...with-huberdeau

Again, his primary line mates last season were Bennett (fired into the Sun by Flames Fan's on this very forum for being awful) and Duclair who was sort of resurrected last season and had a career year.

I think some of us knew it was going to be a huge change coming into this year, and while I think he could clearly be doing better I don't think its fair to be claiming we need to trade/buy him out.

Let's perhaps give it more than half a season before we write the guy off.

115 pts may be too much

But 5th in team scoring and on pace for 55 pts?

That’s more than coaching. Sutter had him with the teams best 2 centers the whole time. 1st team power Play. It’s mostly Huberdeau’s
