Think that's a bit using the benefit of hindsight - when Flames were second in the entire NHL in 18-19 nobody was calling to break up the 3M line or Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm.
Really the problem was more when Monahan started to break down in the 19-20 season, that they didn't just shut him down sooner and move Lindholm to center.

He said there was rumours he would end up with the Devils because he wasn’t going to go to Calgary and Calgary didn’t want him. So scratch Tarasenko off the list?

Did he mean Calgary doesn't want him, period? Or Calgary didn't want him as a return for Tkachuk?

True, they could be different things. He was talking about the potential Tkachuk trade when he mentioned it. So could be not as part of the return for Tkachuk.

It's in everyone's best interest (Huberdeau and the Flames) to find a way to get him going. Including at some point if he did want to be traded that only happens if he's producing.
But the notion that they should have waited and then he would have signed a lower contract is dumb. If they waited you are looking at having to trade him for sure, and at low value. Which maybe will still have been better than the deal they signed, but the scenario you are describing doesn't exist.
|
Agree totally. Maybe you get him slightly cheaper, but i don't know.
The guy is an amazing talent. He just needs to get some support and time to get used to things. He is going to be great here for a long time.

If the team doesn't start playing the right way it doesn't matter who they bring in. Way to many miscues and blunders in there own end.Right now they don't even have a identity. They were suppose to struggle scoring but they were not suppose to be struggling like they are in there own end. Everyone on the team is responsible for the train wreck in there own end.Forwards, defensemen and goaltenders need to be a lot better in there own end. Also just making bad reads pinches and plays all over the ice. They need to play there structured game and do it way more consistently.

Amen. That take is an absolute tour de force in revisionist history.

Someone needs to learn the difference between “there,” “their,” and “they’re.”

According to Lebrun, the Habs were offered a first-round pick for Josh Anderson, and turned it down.....

No one involved in those trade negotiations made a smart decision

*cough*
Heck scroll down to post #18 and I even suggested last year's top line
The stubborness of the Flames' staff decisions in light of glaring deficiencies is NOT hindsight. Those posts are from March 2019 - When the Flames were second in the NHL.

Only way this makes sense for either team if there was significant retention involved. Actually wouldn't be surprised if it was the flames with 50% retained. Still gross

I agree, wouldn’t surprise me at all that it was the flames offering their first. Lebrun seems to have always been plugged in when it comes to the flames. The player is also someone who has been rumoured around the Flames for years.
As far as gross is concerned, I think we all have to come to terms with the fact the flames organization believes we are in win now mode! I wonder if the reason the first was turned down, because the first being offered is not in this years draft?

Why would the Habs not take that deal? He's got 4 years left on a contract that looks worse by the year and he's not a key rebuilding piece.

Habs aren't in any rush and the deadline isn't here yet. Give other teams a chance to stew and see if the offers go up. That 1st will probably still be there from someone .
