If we're trading Backlund then we're definitely giving up. Can't see it.
Color me super interested in Marky wanting to leave though. Make it happen.

How about Klingberg?

I know he is on a bad team, but he wasn't doing great in Dallas at the end and from that chart, it's really bad now. I think Klingberg has negative value

Would much rather the Flames trade for Gostisbehere than Klingberg.

Not sure why Markstrom would want out. He's been very fortunate that Darryl has stuck with him this long as most coaches would have buried him as the backup by now given his play this season.

Might be too many centers. I think we need a scoring winger and a depth defenceman.

If he really wanted out, maybe he's just seen / had enough of the Pacific division? Don't think I've ever seen a goalie wave the white flag like that but maybe the Oilers series did break him? Maybe he'd rather play these teams twice in a year rather than 3-4 times if at all?
Maybe he hates Sutter?
But if its true, and he does wants out, the Flames would be foolish to not make that happen as they're going to need cap space and have a (seemingly) capable goalie in the A and a capable backup right now. Might not get any better in goal if you're going to make a move like that now.

You'd be selling him at a low, and there probably isn't a lot of buyers. You're not going to free up cap space by getting rid of him as you'll likely have to take some dead weight in cap right back. That or have to get rid of draft picks you may prefer to keep.
Can't be a lot of teams who would want a possibly broken 6M goalie for 3 more years that right now sucks under one of the best defensive coaches in the NHL.

^ One year removed from a Vezina nomination and we're not talking Bobrovsky money here.
Would they have to take salary back? Maybe. If they take on half his cap hit maybe they don't? Stranger things have happened.
But truthfully, I don't see him moving as I don't think he really wants out.

Teams interested in gambling on Mangipane in a different system…Columbus? New Jersey? Carolina?
Backlund is desired by more then one contender?
Markstrom wants out? Some tea here, won’t share … I don’t buy it personally.
Tanev shoulder MAY be ####ed. Swelling is bad. Same Injury as last year?
Team still trying to decide direction. Tre is working hard to improve D, Expensive market (Dumba?Klingberg? (All cost 2023 1st, Tre won’t move it)
Sutter isn’t against youth… accountability, maturity and entitlement are an issue with majority of 18-23 Players. He paints them all with the same brush for a reason. Loves Pelt, expect to be in top 9 post break? He wants to see Zary but only if he plays specifically slotted at C not as a winger.

Well.........
That's a rather depressing set of rumours.

Salary next year is 8,000,000.00. Not a lot of teams going to want that

has to be a pretty small list of teams that would both want the guy, and have the cap space for him.
He's not going anywhere until the Flames have two options at an NHL level that are better. Then they'll just buy him out.

What is Mangiapane worth at this point? I don't see the Flames winning that trade at this moment.

There would be a market for Markstrom. Just a year ago it was unthinkable that any team would trade for Matt Murray.

I find the "All cost 2023 1st, Tre won’t move it" part extremely comforting. If they move a 1st round pick to prop up this dog of a roster, it would test my fandom of this organization.

Watching last night made me more in favor of giving up lol. If there's any year to try loading picks it's this one. What if we sold then flipped and tried to compete next year again? I don't think it's that far off. We're probably not selling Huby and Kadri, Lindholm unlikely to get sold off, Dube probably, Weegar, Rasmus and zad sticking around... that's a decent core to build around.
Our roster is pretty depressing.
That would leave us Mangiapane, Backlund, Hanifin, and Markstrom as potential big pieces to move out. Maybe someone would overpay for Lewis, maybe we could extract some value for. If we could collect at least 2 2023 firsts out of that bunch it would be pretty great. Next year the roster would incorporate Pelletier, Zary, maybe Schwindt...

I think any 2023 1sts will be tough to acquire. Teams are going to move 2024 picks as the 2023 draft looks one of the best in a long time, and the 2024 draft looks weak so far.
You aren't going to get '23 picks for any of those guys, even if the organization had a willingness to do it (which they likely don't)

Meh, I think Backlund and Hanifin are both on the edge of 1st round pick deserving territory if traded this season. Markstrom and Mangiapane no.

I really, really, don't want to lose Backlund. But I think you're right.
Edit: but hey if we do at least I can get a backs jersey for cheap...
