The catch is that they reunite in Montreal.
Canadiens send the Panthers 2023 1st round pick to Florida for Bennett.
Canadiens send Anderson & Gallagher to the Flames for Huberdeau
Basis is that Huberdeau is not going to be worth the $10M/yr contract and the Flames want to get out from it as soon as possible.

Only explanation is Duhatschek’s computer was accessed by Staples or Spector.

Could you imagine Sutter 2.0 as GM.

I don't know. isn't he on pace for 20 goals and for more points than last season?
that's not bad for a 4M player. A pretty good pumpkin, I'd say.

You have to cut Florida point totals in half though

I’d much rather keep Huby if the best you can get for him I’d Anderson and Gallagher

Some of us didn't want him in the first place.

How about a deal around Hanifin and a second for Horvat, with negotiating an extension?

We would have to dump salary next season. Depending who had to leave, I would be for it.
It leaves our defense a little thin though. It would be amazing if Kylington were to return though.

If the team is moving Hanafin, I'd rather go after Konecny over Horvat.

I 100% agree with this and have been on the move Hanifin train for a while. I think he is highly overrated. Softer than a bag of milk and is a turnover machine when the heat gets turned up in a game. If we could dangle him for a scorer, you do it every time.

Cut point totals from Florida in half? Well based on what we’re seeing from Huberdeau and Weegar that’s not too far off.

FWIW, I don't think Hanafin is overrated at all and he is fairly paid for what he is.

bit of an exaggeration but Florida does play a style that is likely to get a player more points than they would on most teams
they don't exactly play much team D
He also wouldn't be averaging over 20 mins a night here and Bennett wouldn't be averaging over 18
I think Bennett is a good player but his numbers are a bit inflated in Florida, doubt he would have them here or on most teams was the point

With some of the point totals thrown at Huberdeau when commenting on his abilities (50-60 point player?!?!), it's important to note that after his difficult start with a new team, new system and coach that demands you play his way before you can put up points (ask Gaudreau and Tkachuck how that went before they blew up later), he is basically putting up a PPG AND be being derided for not doing more while doing it.
I see 82 points a season as his base level going forward. And if our GM could get him an actual line to play with he'd easily be over a PPG, imo.

I guess I just see a different player than most of CP who's resigned to the idea that he's a bust. I see a crafty, sneaky passer that tries to do what he did in Florida and has limited options when he's ahead of the play with a pass or play.
You can tell he's frustrated that he had familiarity and knew exactly where to the throw the puck (or that's to say, his teammates knew exactly where he'd throw the puck), and now those options just aren't there. We're a simple, system driven, plodding team that goes for puck possession, followed by a point shot or low percentage down low shot, and it's taking a toll on his ability to create out of nowhere.
You don't get 85 assists and 115 points with two non stars if you aren't elite at some of aspect of the game of hockey. He is, but this system, this team and his line mates just aren't fitting right now with what he brings to the table.
I agree a $10.5 mil player should drive the play and be a game breaker, and no that isn't what Huberdeau is, but he's worth a lot (maybe $9-$9.5mil?) if we can get him a solid line.

Last 30 games he’s third in 5v5 scoring on the team and 75th-ish league wide. First liner production but not as good as he could be of course.
What’s really hurting the view of his play (and the rest of the offensive players on the team, and the team’s position in the standings) is the absolute ####-tier PP the Flames have over the same period. The team is scoring about 6.8 goals per 60 PP mins when a good team is scoring around 10. It’s bottom 10 by a lot and the teams that are worse are not making the playoffs (except Seattle somehow).

When the trade was made, I pointed to Dougie Hamilton as an example of a player taking time to adjust
He was a disaster his first ~20 games
Not too shabby after that
