Marie Fredriksson of Roxette dead at age 61
Quote:
Singer Marie Fredriksson died Monday after a 17-year battle with cancer, her management company has confirmed.
The 61-year-old was a successful solo artist in her native Sweden before joining with Per Gessle to form Roxette, the act that went on to achieve global fame.
The duo's breakout single was "The Look," reaching number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1989.
Roxette was huge in the 80s and 90s.
Surprisingly in Asia. I believe there is a Cantonese version of each of their songs. When Cantonese music was at its peak.

I haven't actively listened to them since high school, but I wore out my cassette tape back then!
Anytime I hear a Roxette song now it really takes me back to fond memories. They were awesome. Too bad they didn't put out more hit albums like they did when I was in high school.
I loved Roxette when I was a kid. Look Sharp was the first cassette album I ever owned. I love that album, so many great hits with The Look, Paint, Dangerous, and Listen to Your Heart. Really saddened by the news. RIP.
Another fantastic artist gone way too soon. So many Roxette songs were part of the soundtrack of my youth, and even today they're just so damn catchy. Glad I was able to see them live in Calgary in 2012 - my wife and I both thought it was incredibly brave of Marie to do a tour like that even though it was pretty apparent that she wasn't 100% well even then. Godspeed Marie. Heaven's playlist just got that much better.

"Spending My Time" is exquisite. I used to listen to it on repeat, memorizing every note. The refrain, in particular, is stunning. And the change-up toward the end
Thank you, Marie.
