The thing is, Denis and Vasek are scheduled to play doubles next against two rested Italians.

Whoot!! Need to rest them for tomorrow against the Americans, we already beat the Italians no need to push it in doubles.

Gotta hand it to Frank Dancevic, he certainly rolled the dice on substituting Vasek for Felix at the last minute, but it looks like a master stroke now.

You have to push everything. There could be 2 wildcard spots up for grabs.

Massive performances from Shapo and Vasek today! This format is such a breath of fresh air in terms of the Davis cup play. Love it.

I agree, you can't mail in the doubles matches in this event at any point now. The tie-break for the wild card spots go to overall games won. Although the Americans would look like the weaker opponent, our guys are tired after playing today so it very well could come down to a few games here or there.

Also I was very happy Italy didn't select Sinner to be on the team. That kids is on fire.

Tiebreaker is set ratio followed by games ratio.

Canada's set ratio is 80% (4 out of 5) and their game ratio is 53% (34 out of 64)

I like this new format, doesn't sound like attendance is great but I kind of hope it catches on.

Kind of a fun way of doing it for tennis, and feel like I would go to something like this if it catches on.

From what I'm reading on-line, the atmosphere for the Canada - Italy matches were very good because it was on a smaller court. Ben Rothenberg was impressed by how many Canadian fans were in attendance:

Doubles need a third set as Fognini - Berettini take the 1st set 6-2 but Shapospisil take set 2 by a 6-3 score.

Italy takes the doubles rubber in three sets, but a fantastic effort by Vasek and Denis today to secure the win for Canada in singles.

It will be interesting to see the match-ups for Canada vs. USA on Tuesday - As a refresher, Team USA consists of the following:

Taylor Fritz
Reilly Opelka
Sam Querrey
Frances Tiafoe
Jack Sock

I have to think Opelka will go tomorrow just for the big, booming serve indoors and I could see Dancevic selecting Schnur as his opponent as Brayden can bring the heat as well and they had a very close match indoors at the New York Open early in 2019. I think the other singles match will likely be Fritz vs. Felix which should be a dandy.

He had a pretty good tourney in Charlottesville where he lost in the final to Vasek. Save Shapo for the doubles rubber with Felix as those two guys can feed off each other.

If Felix can go you have to use Felix and Shapo. USA has a good doubles team I don't want it going to doubles for the decider.

If Canada wins tomorrow they will play either Belgium or Australia next I think.
